Animal Crossing StreetPass Meetup Galway

    Hi Guys,

Behind the scenes I've been working on getting a StreetPass meetup in Galway and I've been in contact with a Nintendo rep I met at Mario Fest last year.

As it turns out, there are a number of meetups being scheduled in the UK (all regular meetups, not Nintendo organised) for people to get together and play Animal Crossing (or any other games for that matter!) and he's kindly agreed to offer the same support to a meetup here. I don't want to reveal too much yet, but sponsored eshop cards and some Animal Crossing merchandise are a sample of what he's offered. He's also promised a set of 100 Animal Crossing themed posters (4 designs x25 each) to publicise the event around the area.

First thing I want to do is set a date. I'm convinced a Saturday is our best bet, with either June 29th or July 13th as the date, with Eyre Square Shopping Centre as the venue, I'd tend to favour the latter date, but I'm open to suggestions.

This was great fun last time we did it, but I'm hoping this can be on a larger scale with a higher attendance (and more freebies!)

Feel free to suggest other dates or ask any questions!

    So, are you guys interested?

Wouldn't mind doing the July 13 one, that is my Birthday so I would get a massive amount of cakes in Animal Crossing at any such meet up, only thing is Galway is too far from Dublin, wonder would it be possible to run a simultaneous event in different cities, say one in Galway, Dublin, Cork, Belfast etc and still get Nintendo to dole out stuff for one and all.

I don't think it's really feasible to have events in every city. I guess if people were willing to organise ones in each city then maybe, but I could only handle the organisation for the Galway one. Ask your friends to finance your trip to Galway for your birthday maybe! :P

I'm only the idea man, also what are these fr-iends you speak off, I know not what this means... Mumford and Sons and The Killers are playing in Dublin on this day too, more massacres in Phoenix Park I would assume, may be there could be a meet up in Dublin arranged for this day too for those of us that wouldn't be able to make it to Galway to meet in Stephens Green or somewhere else perhaps.

BTW, Apologies for hijacking this thread on you.

No problem! With Iwata arriving through SpotPass with all puzzle pieces we would have a good opportunity to collect a bunch of pink pieces. Who could resist that?!

Yeah except not that day cause I can't come.

I have 605 of the 625 available puzzle pieces. My schedule must not be taken lightly.

Hey I'll definitely come to the meet up, thanks a million @Robman for organising this! I've got a few friends in Galway with 3ds's and I've mentioned the idea to them, they're really keen on attending. They said they'd spread the word too. Also, I'll actually be just back from a trip to Tokyo, so I should be loaded up with pink puzzle pieces! :D

Good stuff! Hopefully the posters will draw some casuals too.

I've posted the details now, going with July 13th as the date as that gives plenty of time to get everything in order.

    See here: http://www.meetup.com/Nintendo3DS/Galway-IE/966862/

Seven others who've either attended a Meetup in Galway in the past or have expressed an interest in a meetup. Hopefully some of those guys will come too! :)

For anyone getting the train on the Dublin to Galway line, myself and andy are getting the 11.25 train from Heuston Station which gives us a good hour before the meetup. Travelling is pretty horrible so the more the merrier guys :D

Also with the new streetpass games in the Mii Plaza, there's never been a better time to be getting streetpasses :)

Impromptu Streetpass Meetup 2.1! Another 3DS user posted in another part of the forum (you know who you are. And now you know that I'm cyberstalking you!) that he's going to IKEA on Saturday. As it happens, so am I. I have no idea what time, and I'm not going to ask him - that takes all the fun and excitement out of it, and besides we're strangers off the internet. Let's not make this weird!

Are you hungry for streetpasses and cheap meatballs laced with horsemeat? Join us there! Or not, as it's a big place and I'm not going to wear a neon sign on my head. Or am I? Psyche!

    Meetups should have Rules
All participants must tie an Ikea Measuring Tape around their head or left arm. Except me. I don't want to look like an idiot!
    No Cosplay
    No unnecessary touching
If you're going in pairs one of you has to wheel the other around on one of those yellow Hannibal Lecter trolleys
If you're using your 3DS in public, hide it inside one of the fake laptops littered around the top floor so you look like a business person having a nervous breakdown.

Damnit, I was there last Sunday, with the tape measure tied round each of my extremities. And not a single streetpass hit.

Just letting you guys know that I got some sweet posters yesterday to give out on the day. There are four different designs, one for each season! I'll try to post some pictures later!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 334 ✭✭jaydoxx

Hell yeah, animal crossing posters? :O

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭robman60

Yup, Animal Crossing! These pictures are stuck on the front of the packets, hence the selotape. They are all A3 size, and of really good quality!

    Here they are:

    They're class! Pity I can't come :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Princess Peach and myself will *probably* be there, we're traipsing around the Wesht in a camper van at the minute! So we're planning to head to Galway tomorrow so might attend before we head back on Saturday!

That's great if you can, hopefully you can make it!

I got some sweet Animal Crossing standees too, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to bring them up as they're quite large and I'll probably be getting a bus to Galway. :(

I might be in Ikea too (late afternoon). I'll bring my 3DS just in case. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭robman60

I received a bunch of eShop codes today, which I'll be giving out.

I look forward to seeing you guys tomorrow!

Where in the shopping centre is the meetup?

Where in the shopping centre is the meetup?

There's a seating area down a bit from Gamestop, meeting at 3pm, and once you see some people with open 3DS's in hand you'll know you're in the right place. ;)

We don't know where that is :p We are standing at the railing looking down at sails café.

I didn't know anything about this until today. Now I don't play Animal Crossing myself, but I love to support local gaming, so I spread it round the net as much as possible in the time I had.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,228 ✭✭✭robman60

We must have had about fifteen 3DS owners at least, along with a few wives and kids who had been dragged along. :P

I have photos which I'll post tomorrow. Thanks a lot for coming everyone, and I hope you all had an enjoyable day!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

Glad we made it, despite my embarrassing joint failures of battery and then having the screen too dark to see what the hell was going on in Map Kart (still can't complain about that sunshine though!) and coming last... :-\

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,681 ✭✭✭Wolverine359

Fantastic day! It was so great to meet fellow boardsies in person and had great time playing MarioKart7, thanks @robman60 and everyone who came along to make this a great event! :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,698 ✭✭✭✭Princess Peach

That was much fun. I enjoyed my day in lovely Galway and met some great people and got many pieces :D So glad we made the trip, and thanks a million Robman!

I have a few photos yeah! I'll try to post them tonight or tomorrow, took a good few! :)

That's class! If only I lived somewhere closer to Galway :(

Also, in regards the new Nintendo Zones and Streetpass, I can't believe there's so few in Ireland. There's two in Cork, 3 in Dublin and none in Galway. Of course there's over 100 in Belfast!

Maybe they'll be introduced after the new update? They seem to be of little or no use currently, so maybe they'll bring more when there's actually a purpose.

With regard to Galway; I got connected to Nintendo Zone on a Go bus last year and another time I received a letter through SpotPass in M&S, although I'm not sure if that makes it a Nintendo Zone or not.

@Gubbie: I also meant to keep a set of the posters to send to you if we had spares, but I ended up giving them to Stephen to give to his work colleagues and it didn't even cross my mind at the time! Sorry! :(:o

Also thanks for keeping me in mind Robman! It really did look fantastic
