Right I'm after buying a house In need of repair. There's no water in the taps. So I guess it had been turned off incase of freezing etc. I went out to the road to open up the cover that says 'uisce' expecting a tap thing inside to turn back on the water. But there's nothing there only a hole. I know this could be stupid but is there any chance that the tap thing could have fallen into this hole. I genuinely don't have a clue where else to look

Some of them can be deep down or buried in earth.
Put your hand down (without getting it caught) and feel for the tap

Also there can be one just outside the house as well or under the sink/hot press

Use a bent spoon or something similar to clean it out, somtimes broken glass often finds its way into the hole.

What county is it in? You'll probably need a water key, borrow one or get one in the plumbing wholesales. Every house should have one for emergencies.

I'd probably turn the water off each night while your working on the house in case there is any leaks...
