I see microcenter mentioned a fair bit in other forums with US members, not sure how true it is but apparently even their instore prices are extremely competitive.

That's true, actually. They had 2500K's cheaper than Newegg for a while. They often have pretty good bundle deals too. I'll try and throw up a Newegg build in a bit if someone doesn't beat me to it.

They're f*cking insane. They sell i5s really cheap and have motherboard/CPU bundles, 40 dollars of mobo if you get CPU, too. The offer for the last 6 months or so with IvyBridge was 170 (yes 170) dollars, plus 40 dollars off any mobo.

They take losses on these items in order to entice customers into the store. It'd entice me anyways, that's for sure :)

Thanks guys, will check out microcenter soon enough. Thanks Bloodbath, I reckon an intel processor is a must for me but the rest looks good, how has windows 8 being playing with new builds? would windows 7 be better?

No bother if the prices are that low you should be able to get a 4770k build then for around the same price.

Windows 8 can be customised to run like 7, or older versions, with classic shell. 8 has some nice features like ultra fast boot which can give crazy boot times by disabling most of the post operations. The boards Bios will affect the speed as well. Asrock and Asus ones are supposed to be good. You should be looking at sub 5 second boot times.

Is GTA V coming to PC? Or is this build just for editing videos for GTA?

No confirmation, but I don't think there's any reason to believe it won't at some point after the initial console release.

There has never been a simultaneous announcement or release in the series by Rockstar, and people were asking the same question even after the PS3/360 release of GTA IV in 2008.

you need to check if your editing program can make use of more than one gpu, many of them can not

I'm sure it will be coming to the PC in time. Generally I play strategy games ( total war, civ, crusader kings, some shooters and rpgs). Re Video editing, sorry I meant to edit that option , I mainly tinker with photos atm but video is something I see myself doing shortly.

    thanks for the input guys.

Does anyone have recommendations on a >1080p monitor. I see this computer running for about 4-5 years. Would this hardware be sufficient for 4k content in time?

    thanks

in that case, if you are planning on video editing using adobe products for example then you will need to get the very latest version of it, as even cs6 doesn't support more than one; i don't think sony vegas does either. but if the rig is going to be used primarily for gaming then perhaps this won't matter to you

If you are going to be recording gameplay get a 3TB for the job. The lads I play ArmA with are constantly complaining about having to rush editing so free up space.

4k content? You mean gaming at 4k? That won't happen any time soon. You could spend 3-4k on a pc and still struggle with 4k gaming.

Gotcha, I used to be one of those that purchased from Dell and have now wised up so my knowledge in this area is somewhat lacking. Aye a 3TB and SSD would be great. I will have to price this all up at the weekend and see what the $$ cost is. Thanks
