handelbar changeover question??

    probably a silly question but when changing handlebars on my trusty steed, do
    i need to remove the gear and break cables from the shifters or can i just unscrew and slide off the sifters without removing ccables?

    Most of the time just unscrew the shifters and slide them off with cables still attached.
