Im also an ex customer as of a few months, I got a letter about a month ago offering me half price for 6 months and then got an letter today offering me half price for 9 months.

Since we got rid I dont miss it and as a result we are watching less TV, which 9/10 was always a FTA channel we watched anyway.

I got this offer yesterday as I have an old cancelled Sky account and I was offered free sky for 6 months including Sky Sports and Movies all free. The number which called is 0999103.

I took out a new Sky contract last November so couldn't take their offer as I'm in contract with that until Nov 2013.

yup, cant say i dont see your point, but i like my footy and golf, + the series link /sky plus is handy for well basically anything other than footy or golf. . . always try to watch from the HD to forward ads etc. .

ya those postal offers, unless its a letter for you alone, then its muck. . . . offers printed on a card with ur name and address on it, is always a no no. . .

ive been on half price packages for as long as i can remember. . . . while i like it. . what they have including the sports is only worth max 35 a month to me. . .

I've been a Sky customer with twelve years and have been on half price for the year offers for the last 4 years, cancelling and resubscribing as a new customer each time, there is no way I will pay the extra €15/month for HD and I am happy to pay around €27 - €28/month and all I want is the likes of History, Nat Geo and the normal entertainment family pack channels in HD. Sky to me is not worth more than €30/month and unless I am getting HD included in that price I will cancel

I got the call as well, but as the reason of cancelling was that we weren't watching much TV lately as to make economic sense, I refused the 6 free months.
If it were to accept, it was only to watch whatever is still on the box as now I can't access any recordings.
Anyway, for me is not worth the hassle to call them back in 5 months time to cancel.

    Hi.

sky have been calling me over the last few days but i've been ignoring the call as they have bordered on harrassment in the past with their calls to come back to sky.

Just to confirm, they are offering 6 months completely free viewing?

You can cancel after 6 months? I.e. no 12 month contract?

Is the full sky package and HD in the offer?

Are there any other special terms and conditions?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 544 ✭✭✭NewBeefFarmer

Only std sky, hd would be half price from the start if you wanted it.

Yip, take it now for 6 months. . If you dont want a bill ring back and cancel 6 months minus 33days say. Or just under 5 months. No contract. .

Free footy till 5th dec. . Thank you very much. .

I'm just after finishing my years contract with them 12months for half price. If I cancel with them, can I sign up for this? I was only paying €17.50 a month, so €35 is just too much - really trying to cut my bills down at the minute.

Also, got an offer in the door yesterday for half price broadband for 6 months. I have it with UPC at the moment, is it really muck with Sky or is it worth considering?

    Not very happy seeing this.

The wife rang Tuesday looking for discounts and got offered the standard 25% off for 9 months. She asked if I rejoined (as an ex customer from a couple of years ago) would there be any special offers. Yer man said they don't do anything like that.
The sister in law rang me yesterday saying Sky rang her husband out of the blue yesterday offering him 6 months free as an ex customer.
Then I come on here and see they're offering it all over the place!

    Not bloody happy! :(

Sky broadband is pure rubbish, stay with UPC far superior service.

People people. . . You cannot ring them asking for a deal or discount. . Your basically saying i want my sky back. . .

If i were sky id be thinking . . She/he is cracking. . . We will wait for them. . .no need to tease with an offer. .

    There not stupid

I've been waiting for a call for the last 6 years!
Cancelled it in 07 and nothing.
If they rang, I'd might consider it.

i have them listed on my phone as 'sky f**kers' but might answer a call for free sports and movies for six months!

    No they're not stupid.
Which is why you'd think when a potential customer rings them looking to sign back up, they'd sign them up. It's not costing them anything, and there's a (good/very good) chance of said potential customer keeping their account open after the trial period.

As for "Asking for a deal on an old account. . Terrible", why is that so different to offering a deal on an old account?

I was out of contract and rang up to cancel, genuinely not watching SKY TV much.

After a lot of petty offers I was eventually offered 1/2 price for six months, without entering a new contract (have been with Sky for over 5 years)

I wonder if I could have gotten a better deal?

That said, the price of the phone call probably cost me about a months subscription

I cancelled just over 12 months ago. No call since.

At the time I went looking for a discount as everyone was getting one. Even had the Sky executive support team ring me a couple of times to reassure me Sky don't give out discounts in general and that Sky customers are happy with their monthly bill. What BS!

A couple of months later I initiated the cancellation as everyone on boards was still getting a discount. What happens? I was offered 25% discount for 12 months. I refused. Then offered 50% for 6 months. I refused again.

Since then switched to saorview/freesat. I don't miss Sky and I won't be going back. Sky had a customer for life at the time as I was big into the sports coverage.

Cancelled 3 or 4 months ago, heard nothing until last week, have had half a dozen (unanswered) calls from sky in the last 3 days. Have managed quite nicely without them, but 6 months free wouldn't be too bad.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,197 ✭✭✭bailey99

i have SKY basic package. Had it 2 years. If I cancel it, can I still use the SKY box to watch the usual channels or it that a stupid question?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,196 ✭✭✭quaalude

I was a customer for perhaps 12 years, cancelled a few months ago. They called me too, a couple of days ago, offering 6 months totally free.
I said no as I am much happier without it (I do watch plenty of Netflix and download some stuff when I want a telly fix).

You'll only get the FTA channels if you cancel so no RTE, TV3 etc

You can tune in the ITVs and BBCs through other channels but to be honest it's a pain in the ass in Ireland. In the UK you would still have them neatly on the EPG

Better off getting a Freesat HD box on ebay or amazon and using that.

No its not,all you have to do is plug out the sky box, remove your irish sub card plug it back in again and you have the UK EPG,that is BBC 1 BBC 2 ITV etc in order

i used to live by myself, so only had 1 sky card, but 2 sky boxes and connections, one being in my bed room , so i used just take the card if i wanted to watch tele in bed. I'm no longer living alone so leave the card in the main sitting room box. There is a decent selection of channels on the FTA , the only ones i really miss is Fox ,universal and living. I would be tempted to cancel sky altogether as plenty on the other channels !

Just a note on this, Sky's year end (for customer numbers ect)is calculated at the end of June each year.Staff can get bonus's if they sign up "new" or returning customers by years end.

This offer might dry up at the end of the month.

Did you renew your contract on Tuesday after your wife rang? Use your 7 days grace to cancel and they'll look after you (or at least they should)

+ . .. i always notice offers dry up coming to or at the beginning of the premier league. . . or the run up to Christmas.

No contract renewal. Just a rolling 30 day thing.

Hardest part of all this is trying to get the wife to do anything. She's a frickin' disaster. That's my cross to bear though!

That's one of the problems Sky will have trying to get people in for the Free 6 months.
The PL doesn't start again until August so that's 2 1/2 months gone of the 6.

Doesn't work with the new Sky HD+ boxes. One way around is to mark all the working channels as favorites, that saves a lot of browsing through endless channels that don't work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,625 ✭✭✭wmpdd3

^^^Works with my box, I got it in Aug 12.

I got my HD+ box 2 years ago and I'm stuck with the Irish configuration. Did you do anything specific or just unplug the box, took out the card and then plug it again?

I cancelled 3months ago and they rang on Tuesday if I want 6months free with all packages (sports, movies etc.) Said to them that I have to think about it as I first thought it's a scam. Different girl rang 2days later and I took the deal but she said that entertainment pack is max what she can give me, so no HD, no movies, no sports. Just the bloody Kardashians in poor quality :) btw they rang from 0800-80-68-07

I rang them back this morning (Fri) to see if this was still available. It was and they offered me the complete package for 6 months free. (€79 per month after that). I got a helpful chap who even told me what date to ring back by to change or cancel.

I've been with sky for over 12 years with their movies and sports package, if I gave them a ring do you think they would give me 6 months free if I threatened to cancel?

Well that was good, now have more channels than I had before I cancelled, and for free. Now have Movies and Sports as well as the basics. Don't think I would want to be working in the cancellation department in November (or trying to ring them come to think of it, ah well I will worry about that in November)

Yes. They did ring me a couple of days ago but I turned it down. I had another think about it and after reading the comments here decided that I had nothing to lose.
The number I called is one from a flyer I got in the post from them :0818 716 045.
I never had movies or sports before but I do now. Except Sky Sports 4. Something tells me that that is the channel they will be showing the Lions games on.

if u ask me. .. any person paying the said price (no offers/discount) for say 12 months, should be cancelling every 13 months. .. .

i know people that ive told about offers. . .like the one last sept. . free set up and anything half price. . . and the just went. . ahhhh. . im fine. . . . .

    paying 70 quid a month. . . . . . .. complaining then about LPT. . .

never pay the standard price for longer than 12-13 months. . . go cancel. .. and from experience. . . certainly never take offer 1, no matter what it is. . . . u may. . if u wish take offer 2, if its good. . .. No 3 is the one u want. . . . . lol. . . when i job boxes. . i tell ya. .. its a b"t£h to cancel the previous one. . .get about 2-3 offers id say. .

Thanks for that! I cancelled 12months ago and so far no phone calls from Sky, so was thinking about chancing my arm and ring them on Monday saying that I was called by them and offered 6 months free but needed a couple of days to think about it. Hope they'll offer me the same as yourself :D Never had Movies or Sport so it would be class. Fingers crossed anyway :)

They can go and whistle Dicksy.

Now if they offered an equipment upgrade including a new dish (to replace 12 year model) in the year of the world cup in june I might consider it!

    cancelled two weeks back
they offered me 46 for 12months to stay (from66)
    i declined
might take it back if it were free for six months though

Got the deal today. No set up charge. I dont know about a charge for the box as i already had one. I would imagine the offer is only valid if you already have a box but maybe not.

I couldn't get the HD pack without paying full price for it and entering into a 12 month contract so i said no to that!!!
