Quite simply, what cable do I use to power an Amazon super flower 450W? It came from hardwareversand.de bit there's No cable.

Should I use the standard 3 prong one or the 2 prong one like my monitor came with? I have an adapter so I'm safe enough there.

It makes no difference, it's the same thing. A standard 3 prong one with no adaptor is best if you have the choice.

Thanks. Last thing I want is to blow the thing up after getting and putting it together! I've a 3 prong 5A 250Watt plain cable. I figure I better ask than be sorry.

5 amp fuse in those leads is fairly standard and perfect for PC use. I'm a bit confused about the 250 watt rating though. Are you sure it's not volts?

A 5 amp fuse should be able to supply up to 1200 watts.

    All working now at least.

    Yeah the OP means volts, I'm almost sure. 5 x 250 = 1250watts. Our AC is 230 - 240 v if I'm not mistaken,

    Good.
I have a box with several of those leads. When I need one I just pick one at random. They are all the same you won't have any problems :)

Yeah a max of 250 volts on that lead would make most sense

Next problem: Everything plugged in and apparently working. I have no OS installed yet, just want to see if I can at least get an image on the screen even if it's a blinking "_".

However I have no picture. I plugged up the monitor to the graphics card HDMI port and there's no picture. I can only presume that's because it's a fresh build and there's no drivers or anything yet. The motherboard only has a serial port and not a VGA port and the monitor has a HDMI, VGA and DVI port. So I'm a little lost on how to actually connect a monitor to the motherboard.

Again any help appreciated, I figured I'd have building a pc under control but it seems I'm getting lost on some very simple stuff...

You should be able to get as far as the bios screen even with no operating system installed.
Connecting the hdmi on the graphics card should work fine.

Do you have all power connections in place. Many people forget something small like the CPU power cable or graphics card power cable.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Steviemoyne

I actually forgot the graphics card power cable myself earlier, was wondering why the fan wasn't spinning hah!

And yes, I think I did forget the CPU power...two 4 slot connectors, one with "CP" on it and the other with "U1" on it...I feel like such an idiot.

The warm weather we're having must be going to my head.

hah will it is a learning process and no harm cane be done by forgetting to do these steps :)

Do you get a boot screen now?

Still not working however with those connected. All the cables are now connected, all I have left over are the unused sata ones.

I would expect some sort of beeps or whirrs out of it but all I get is fans.

Check to make sure everything is seated properly GPU,RAM

Then try just one RAM Stick, try both of them individually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Steviemoyne

Seems to be all seated properly. Removed both, put them back. Powered up and still No joy.

Should I be hearing system beeps as a sign of "yes I am infacredit working"? I currently have No noise bit the fans.

Unfortunately many motherboards and cases no longer come with a speaker to trouble shoot the bios

Did you try booting with just 1 ram stick installed?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Steviemoyne

I only have the one 8 gig stick. I'm starting to think I may have chosen the wrong type of ram.

    Motherboard: http://www.hardwareversand.de/DDR3/59310/ASRock+970DE3+U3S3%2C+AM3%2B%2C+ATX.article

    Ram: http://www.hardwareversand.de/articledetail.jsp?aid=58869&agid=1192

The link to the ram does not work.

Apologies and I appreciate your patience trying to help me.

Upon looking however it seems identical to the one I was recommended, only an 8gig stick instead of a 4gig stick.

That sould work, have you tried it in different slots?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Steviemoyne

Tried it in all 4 slots, still no joy. Getting a little worried now sitting here with over 700 euro worth of a air conditioner.

Do you another PC that you could try the graphics card in?
That's the next most likely component to arrive faulty.

I have a 10 year old HP pc that barly runs anything, infact I'm not even sure it can take a radeon 7850. The fan on it is working if that's any indication, which I'm guessing it isn't.

It was the two 4 pin make, I have both connected.

ok unplug one of them i have found this to help in the past also if you can take any pics of the mobo in its case wired up we might see something

Didn't help. It's too dark for a picture, plus I've no camera good enough to provide any quality being that the pc is mainly black.

I have the GPU powered by a cable that has "PCI-Express" wrote on it. I have a spare leftover cable that says "SLI-ready". That is the only cable plugged into the GPU, as far as I can see the radeon 7850 only has one 4 slot power connector.

This is where someone jumps in and says I should be using the SLI one and all my problems will be solved! That is my card aye. Link to my build:

I think I'll just give up for the night. Might get one of the repair shops to take a look. Would be worth getting someone to physically look at it and work out if there are any faulty components.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,851 ✭✭✭massy086

ekk i would not let any of these so called pc repair shops near it .where are u based op there is always someone on here that will help im sure its something silly tbh

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 14,983 ✭✭✭✭tuxy

    That might be best.
Where do you live? If you live near one of the regulars on here they would probably be happy to test components on their system. No point in a PC shop to do the same unless you have to.

Although it's rare other people on here have had similar problems to you with a new build. However I don't know of a case where they have not managed to sort it out :)

In fairness some people have had good experiences with the shops while other have had bad. It depends on the shop.

Ah well I know the guy, Yeah I'm of that mind too. Don't let them touch them. I'm based around longford if anyone needs their good deed for one of the days.

Hey, have you made any progress with this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 649 ✭✭✭Steviemoyne

Got it sorted in the end Tuxy thanks. The board was a bit of a tight fit for the case so the graphics card wasn't in correctly, the front end of it was tight against the case and wasn't fully pushed in. It's all working now, what an amazing system.
