I've a whitehead cow with a lump a bit bigger than a tennis ball on its neck.
I presume its a thorn or something like that.
Any idea on what to do with it?
I might get the vet to lance it if he had to come about something else but would find it hard to justify getting him out espeicially for that...

did you inject her with anything in the neck, sometimes the rotavec corona leaves a lump on the neck on cows here

It's probably an abcess full of disgusting pus. Lance and antibiotics.

just leave very well alone, when ripe it will burst and heal up.

Had a heifer like that last year, called the vet and like bob said advice was to leave it ripen itself and wash out when it burst, did just that she was fine afterwards

Was it caused by the feed barriers/Rail been too low?Have you other cattle with it?Had it here before and it went down eventually caused by too low of a barrier.

Have an old cow that when the calf was weaned from her a good lump came up on her neck. I would say it was just stress. Vet was out on a test and said leave it alone.

    Reduced and grand now.

i had a cow and she had a lump under her neck and she was getting thinner and thinner but then the lump went away and she wasy eating as much as a healthy cow for 2 months while gradually getting thinner until she eventually died.
i hope its not the same thing yours has

Well you're a bright little ray of sunshine aren't you!:P
Agree with Damp above, sounds like fluke. We had a couple lanced here over the years, vet usually tests them first to see if it's 'ready' to pop by sticking a syringe in to see if liquid runs. So unless the vet is there anyway, I wouldn't bother too much as they will break naturally. Warm water with salt helps to bring it to a head.

lump is still the same size give or take, it doesn't appear to be affecting her condition or her bag of milk. I'll have her up near the crush in about ten days time and I might bring her in and handle the lump to see will it burst and keep her near the crush to keep it washed out etc...
