Time Period Between Learner Permits

    Hi All,

I got my first learner permit years ago (10ish), but never really bothered learning to drive.

Is that still valid? Meaning if I go to get a new permit now it will be classed as my second permit?

I booked my theory test yesterday, and I'd like to try fast track learning and getting my test, but I'm concerned if I will be restricted to the six months of having a permit before I can do a test.

If you got it about ten years ago, then it will have expired more than five years ago. Therefore, it will have been erased from the system and no longer counts as a first permit. This happens with full licenses too, but ten years after they expire. So unfortunately no, you're beginning at the beginning of the beginning regarding permits.

I thought that may be the case alright :(

Yep, you are back to square one along with all the other learners who are on their first permit. The six month rule will apply to you.
