    Hi folks,

I received a new replacement iPhone from Apple two weeks ago and I'm having problems with my gmail account.

I can set up all my other accounts on the stock ios mail app no problem.

I can set up my gmails accounts on the gmail app and the mailbox app no problem.

Ios accepts my gmail application specific password and syncs with contacts and calender. But when I try and open the stock mail account it just says 'cannot get mail: connection to the server failed'.

What am I doing wrong here? It worked up to two weeks ago ???

    Thanks
    Quad

Seems to be a random thing that happens.
I'd delete the connections and try setting it back up again with new..mate had it and that was my advice to him and it did the trick.

are you setting it up as exchange?
use m.google.com as the exchange server with your gmail details as login and password.

Not that uncommon. As has been said, try deleting the account and re-adding it. If that doesn't work then I've found that setting up two step verification works. We went round in circles and this was all that worked.

Set it up so that you don't have to get a code every time. The instructions are self-explanatory.

Changing my gmail password worked for me after 6 attempts of deleting and adding the account

I have had major problems with the gmail app and iOS on my iphone 5 yet no issues with the iPad 2 or iPhone 4. I was getting an "oops try again" message when i would try to log in. There is a huge thread on the google support forum with people with similar issues. I tried restoring and everything else that was recommended.

Quite weirdly I had to do a second restore for an unrelated issue and the problem was fixed the second time!

I am now accessing my Gmail accounts using the new email app "Mailbox". It is written specifically for Gmail accounts and has a new innovative and elegant management system. I love it.

Thanks lads. To wrap the thread up, deleting the account totally and re-adding it worked.

And I used the mailbox app for a while as well, Piliger. Went back to the stock app in the end.
