Full-time education not a reason for gap?

I had a phone interview this morning for a job I applied for a while back. The interviewer asked if I could explain the 'gap on my CV'. I was taken aback by this, as I've always either worked full-time or studied full-time with no gaps at all, literally not even a week or two. I asked what she meant and she quite snippily said 'the gap of 9 months in 2009'. I just said 'as you can see in the employment history section, I did a year-long, full-time Master's that year. I had an evening job at the beginning, but had to give that up due to the workload'. She didn't seem very impressed with this. Or perhaps she was embarrassed that she hadn't read my CV properly. Has this happened to anyone else? Surely no-one in their right mind would consider a year out to do a Master's course a 'gap' in your CV?

I wouldn't worry about it, I'd say she just didn't read it properly. If they have a problem with it look elsewhere for work because that would be ridiculous

She hadn't read your cv properly. Education is not a gap.

  • OK, that's what I thought. She was really quite bitchy about it. Obviously didn't think to check the education section to see if there was a reason for the 'gap' and was trying to catch me out.
