Hi I don't know Dublin very well and we are looking for accommodation from sep 2013. Both of us are 1st year students, but one of us is going to UCD and the other to DIT. Where should we be looking for a house to share. We would need to be living equal distance from both colleges. Can anyone help ??

DIT has about 10 different campuses around the city so you will need to be more specific. Generally (very generally) in the city centre draw a line down O'Connell Street and a line down the Liffey. Avoid the upper right corner (other than IFSC) and take the other quadrants on an area by area basis.

If you are going to UCD and your friend going to DIT, Aungier St or Kev St then its best to stay Southside. Areas like Ranelagh Rathmines are traditional letting areas. Accommodation isn't cheap so if you can cut transports costs it will be some economy.

Along the South Circular road would be fine too (The bit of walk will do you no harm!!)

    Hi Mary,

I have a very spacious, bright, airy room which I think would suit you and your friend (in fact, it is plenty big enough to hold 4 x single beds) was planning on renting it to 2/3 students. Room has fitted wardrobes, large chest of drawers, side lockers, study desk and lamp overlooking the garden. It has been freshly decorated, with new curtains, is carpeted, very clean, bright and airy. My home is in Foxrock, only 7 mins walk to the bus stop with very good selection of buses 63, 84, 175, but the best being the 46A, (which comes every 10 mins), and would be ideal for you and your friend (as it stops outside the Phoenix Park). It takes 15 mins to get to UCD from the bus stop on a bus corridor so flies along! The area is very nice and safe so would be ideal for you too. You are only 15 mins by bus to Dun Laoghaire to the sea and coast so very central. I'm offering digs - ideally Mon-Fri but would be flexible on this. You'd have access to your own bathroom too. Private parking space also an option. I also love to cook! If interested, please call me on <snip>

PS Agree Southside safer and nicer - think trying to find somewhere equi-distant is neither practial or realistic - some compromise will have to be made - better to may be have to go an extra 10-15mins on a bus and both be safe and not worrying about being mugged or have unwanted noise all night etc going on around you.

Perhaps best not to have your phone number on the internet.

Private Messages are a better idea.

Does anyone really want to share with that many others?

While Foxrock wouldn't be bad for UCD students, it is far out of town when it comes to nights out. Likewise, it is a bit far for most DIT students.

By the way folks- we do allow advertisements such as this in the Accommodation and Property forum. We do not however allow commercial advertisements from companies/businesses.

Thankyou to everyone who drew our attention to this.

    Hi Victor and SMCcCarrick,

Sorry, new to this site and totally understand and agree with not displaying my mobile - it wasn't my intention to make it public - just thought Mary or whoever clicked onto this discussion could see it and will of course only make it known via private messages. Thank you for removing it from public view.

Victor, Foxrock is very well suited to both UCD and AIDT colleges in particular (UCD from Foxrock is 15-20mins max by bus and AIDT from Foxrock is 10mins max). DIT is of course further (UCD and DIT are not the most compatabile of colleges location wise for two girls sharing without one having to compromise a bit more and I think whoever is going to DIT because of its location, where there are many parts of the city unsafe for young girls to be walking around is not as safe as some where on the Southside,in the suburbs where UCD is located). Foxrock is just 25 mins from the city centre too and as it's on a bus corridor, buses like the 46A which come every 10 minutes regularly are great and have a more 'sociable' time-table than some bus routes.

I would prefer two students sharing for the larger room but just was making the point that it fits comfortably 4 x single beds with all the furniture aforementioned. As an ex student myself who went to UCD for 4 years, I found that Foxrock was a great location. As for parties and coming from city centre, you may not be aware of it, but the 46X is the late nite link bus and runs a very good service until about 4.30am. Alternatively, there is always the options of crashing in your friends place near to a city centre venue if going into town or crashing at whoever is giving the party until the morning and most parties etc were not in the city centre as drink and venues were usually too dear as a student!

I'll be looking to rent out in west dublin, about a half hour from town on local bus routes if u want to go 3 ways. Hopefully pay about 350/400 each for a house.

Thanks for your replys. I will take all in to consideration. I think we are looking at single rooms though. Its not comfortable sharing with some one and you may find you cant get on with this person. But thanks for help.

Own room is a definite I'd never share a room but a house share might be worth looking at, wait and see until the CAO comes back and make plans then. x

    Hey Mary,

myself and two of my friends (1 in Trinity and the other and myself in UCD) were looking at living somewhere between UCD and the city as well. If we could find a 5 bedroom house would you be willing to share as it would make rent a lot cheaper?

    Ciara
