Training for a half marathon

    Hi,

I started running backing in Feb, but would have been in reasonable shape due to playing hurling and gym work into my thirties, I was part of a relay team in the Cork Marathon yesterday, my leg was 5.5 miles but unfortunatley the person that was due to do the leg before cried out injured on saturday, and as we couldnt find a replacement I ended up doing two legs, which was a total of 11.3miles, I completed it in 91 minutes, the furthest I had ever run before was 10km so I was happy.

As it was so close to a half marathon in didtance I was thinking of trying one, how much training/recovery time should I do after the 11.3mile run before jumping into a half marathon?

That depends on how you feel now and what you're aiming for in future. If you're not feeling to sore and exhausted you could get back out training later in the week and you should be capable of running a 1:45 or so half marathon in a few weeks time (if you could find one). However if you're seriously banjaxed by yesterdays effort or if you're aiming to really improve time wise then you're best to look at a proper training plan which would take three months.
