My car got through the NCT except for the above. Any suggestions of a good place to go in Cork City to get them. Thanks.

Imo, go for part worn over remould

For brake pads, any local mechanic or fastfit type place.

The remould brake pads are great though.

    Remoulds.... Good grief

Where were they got? And why?

I wouldn't ever put a set on a passenger car, saw the results first hand back in the 90s...

Eire tyres are selling tuv stamped german remoulds, there supposed to be ok, but not meant for high performance cars that do maximum speed on the auto bhan.

I didn't think it were possible to get remould tyres anymore either. They were before my time but very much frowned upon.

Nothing wrong with part worn tyres if you buy right though. I'd aim to buy new if possible but if your stuck for loot and need to get your car through the NCT for example. Buy badly and they can be a bit of a false economy though.

Anyway, roll on the high-horse brigade....

This might be out of date now, but I thought the German version of the nct had a 3 year age limit on tires? Whatever the law is there now, you can still pick up decent part warn tires for a reasonable price, but I had no idea remolds for passenger cars were still available/legal?

I thought relining brake shoes or pads only applies to cars of our Great-Granddaddies vintage?

There is really no need for either remould tyres or relining pads/shoes on modern cars.

Budget tyres, even some of the cheapest chinese stuff, would even be better(just) then remoulds and if things are really tight then part worns are the way to go.

Pads for your average car won't cost any more then say €40 at most so when you factor in safety, down time etc, what could you possibly save by having pads relined?

Last time I saw a new liner for a brake shoe, it was for a massey ferguson 135.
