Why won't these psychiatrist's allow me to try dopamine meds for depression?

I'm really trying to get a trial for Zyban and none of the psych doctor's will prescribe it, I have had zero luck with ssri's (Seratonin / happy pill's).

I starting taking L-Tyrosine (an amino acid precurser to dopamine) and I couldn't believe how well it worked, I felt really good again, got my libido back after about 10 years, self confidence restored and just went about life attaining my own happiness but I have seemed to have developed a tolerance since to the tyrosine so I'm back at square one again.

Can't quite believe it, I had a taste of freedom for a while and at the the time my only regret was where I could be in life if I was on the tyrosine years ago, I had ambition again, drive motivation etc.

Arranged an appointment with a public Pdoc, he was really bad, didn't seem to listen to anything I was saying, didn't even seem to care and this seems to be the experience Iv had with nearly every state employed pdoc Iv seen, I explained to him everything and the fact Iv had zero results with ssri's, I suffer from major seasonal depression and have had zero libido for 10 years, from everything Iv read zyban / welbutrin is used to treat these symptom's so why wouldn't he let me try a trial?, this isn't the first time I tried to get on this med last summer too and was also declined by a different pdoc so why is this?, he said zyban isn't used to treat depression which it is and would only offer more ssri's which I declined.

I don't want happy pill's, I just want to be able to feel good again, do I have to go private to see a decent psychiatrist that actually listens and be effective? can anyone offer your thoughts on this?

    Cheer's.

Id say doctors/psychiatrists are pretty wary about prescribing medications to patients who ask for a specific one and as Zyban is not used for depression (and apparently can make it worse) they were probably wondering why you wanted that specific one. Sorta like going in and asking for loads of valium or painkillers!

I think its best to go to a doctor that has all your medical history, or to get all your records together in one place. That way they will know its an ongoing condition and *may* have a better idea how to help you.

I have also had no luck with any anti depressant I have tried, and have experienced some pretty severe reactions to them. I am currently on a dopamine based med, and am having no reactions to it, but as with other anti depressants, I am not seeing any improvement.

Valdoxan. It seems to be fairly new to the market and is prescribed for major depression.
