Mechanic Cost Query

(If wrong area Mods please move.)

Got a suspension coil spring (2nd hand) put in old corolla and an oil filter change.

Just wondering what a "fair" price for labour only as I supplied both the spring and the filter? Will gladly pay fair reasonable going rate but I just think what I paid was too much.

(I will post my cost after a few responses to compare then if that's ok?)

    Give a little more detail.

Front or rear spring? what year Corolla? Did you supply engine oil as well as the filter? Older cars with apparently straight forward jobs can often turn into a nightmare due to seized or sheared bolts, parts etc.

I would have guessed €80 to €100 labour plus the price of the oil but it is just that, only a guess. You may as well post the price as I don't think it will influence peoples opinions one way or another.

Why didn't you agree a figure or at least a ballpark figure at the outset. You were obviously trying to keep costs down as you supplied the parts yourself. It's left a bad taste in you mouth as you feel overcharged. The mechanic probably feels he done you a favour and would be well pissed if he thought you felt he was robbing you. This could all have been avoided with a chat before the job started.
