To counter the unrelenting negativity in the other LLS thread, I am starting this thread so that anyone put off by its constant sniping there can post on the entertaining and enjoyable aspects of the show.

Its the last of the season, lets show how widely the show is really enjoyed.

Threads are only usually locked if they get out of hand, if they are in the wrong forum, or contain slanderous posts... Shur leave it open you never know who might come along and contribute..

At its best, the LLS is top class entertainment. I have by and large enjoyed it traditionally but found the 2012-13 season poor and below par in comparison to other seasons. To be honest, Tubridy blows hot and cold. He was right though to reduce overtly political content on the show as there is way too much of this on other RTE chatshows like the infamous 2009-2013 The Frontline. His first season was excellent and his second and third were okay overall too. But this year seemed to lose the balance completely.

The LLS is NEVER good when you have too many boybands, b rate actors and sports personalities who can only talk about their sport. WAY TOO MUCH of these this season. Tubridy should also stop this celeb babies thing too.

The show is at its best when it does some of the following: allows a music legend like Christy Moore to jam through and talk about songs they are passionate about. When intelligent discussions are introduced about things like depression or suicide are introduced, it can also be good (one of the few excellent guests this year was a prostitute who turned her life around). Also, when psychics/mediums are challenged (eg. Joe Coleman interview from a couple of years back) it is always good fun! Pat Shortt is always good to see.

By and large, most of the seasons of the LLS I remember have been generally good. This one just gone was by far the worst. However, Tubridy is not alone with his miss seasons: Pat Kenny's last year was poor too as was Gaybo's last year. But, Gaybo had a way about him that even made the poorest of guests interesting. Pat Kenny excels on good discussions about issues of concern (and I don't mean the trash on The Frontline). Tubridy has the potential to present good shows as his earlier seasons have shown and can do well with the right material. This season, he had the wrong stuff 90% of the time and guests we have seen too often.

How about Tubridy season 5 sans Louis Walsh/Boyzone/Westlife and their affiliates, Twink, Ruby Walsh and b actors. How about banning baby talk on it and limiting the appearance of boxers to only 2 per season? How about more music and entertainment with perhaps a different legend coming in for a slot per week (everyone from The Saw Doctors to classical but none of this Louis Walsh stuff of course)? Then, we would be heading in a good direction with it.

Trying to convince the folks at Montrose that there's no need whatsoever to keep booking the likes of Twink, Louis Walsh and his ilk, Bernard Dunne and his mates, Sunday Independent favourites who are about to become parents or have just done so, et cetera et cetera? That would probably be like trying to break a window with a feather... :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

RTE probably also think that it would cost too much to regularly book guests who, to us licence payers, are far more interesting - without bothering to realise that everyone, themselves included, might actually be getting value for money. :rolleyes: :rolleyes:
