Opel Astra good on diesel?

    Hi I'm considering buying a 1.7 diesel Opel Astra, just wondering does anyone know if they are good on diesel or do they drink it? Also do people find it a good car?

    Mine averages 5.1L/100km with mosly N/M road driving in a not especially economical fashion.

    It can be got down as low as 4.6/4.7 if you go really handy.

    I have had over 1000kms from a tank on several occasions(Astra G van, 52L tank, 1.7CDTI engine)

    What year Astra are you looking at as different variants of that engine were sold in a number of generations of Astra models?
