Was in around town earlier, and saw a sign on the window for 4 steaks for €10...

My first thought was, too good to be true. So I went into the butchers and asked about the steaks, they were sirloin steaks, and looked fairly big so I took a punt on them...Just weight them, they work out at around 8oz each...

Now my housemate is trying to tell me, that I was ripped off:confused:

So AF'ers was it a good deal or was i ripped off

Was I ripped off? 7 votes

Yes-€10 is too much for 4 steaks

No-Please tell me where I can get a good bargain like that

If you're a vegetarian you were ripped off.

And what the heck is an AF'er?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 341 ✭✭Hownowcow

That depends. What sort of animal were the steaks from?

Shows how much life experience you have if you have to ask such a question on a forum like this, but the stake you put on that seems a bargain alright.

There are quite a few towns and indeed cities in Ireland, last time I checked. So where are you? Or was this thread meant for the Psychic forum?

you paid 10 euro for a kilo of sirloin, pretty good in fairness

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,799 ✭✭✭gerrycollins

What was the overall weight. Or what way does the price per kilo work out as? That will determine if you were ripped off!

Is that A_Sober with the greek A indicating lacking, not or opposite.

If so then suspect your housemate is just looking out for you as you are obviously just flutered and likely to purchase anything put in front of you, then post about it on AH

    8oz = 226g.

Sounds like a pretty average price to me. You didn't save a fortune and it didn't cost that much per steak.

Eh... I'm going to guess he's talking about Limerick.

Yeah, it was a good deal, just over €10 per kg, which is about 6-8 quid off the usual per kg price in most butchers.

Same price in my local butchers too.

Seen a midget in his shop today enquiring about them, the butcher told him if he could reach them, up on the counter, he could have them for free, if he couldn't, they were twice the price.

    He didn't take the bet.

Said the steaks were too high.

If it was good beef it was a bargain

If its shîte beef you were ripped off.

It isn't always about the weight vs price

A good steak is a good steak

Depends entirely on the quality of meat, but at €2.50 for an 8oz steak, it not going to be a terrible deal. If its tough (try and push your thumb into it) cut it into small pieces and use it for stew or something like a fajita.

Totally agree here... I see this same 4 for €10 offer in most of the butchers around my area and quiet frankly the quality of the meat is atrocious so really it isn't a great bargain (if the quality is always the same as the 2 or 3 times I was stupid enough to take up the offer).
