Mail from Old House

Don't really know where to put this. I reckon there's loadsa mail of mine to be collected from last rental property and have no way of getting it. As far as I know there's no-one living in the house at the moment. Landlord doesn't live anywhere near, Agency are probably only down in the area maybe twice out of a full year, and I can't see them putting themselves out anyway to help me when it's not their concern. But is there any onus on the Agency to ensure tenants get their mail, or make arrangements to collect it. I suppose it has nothing to do with the Agency at all it's my mail, but just said I'd ask. How do others go about acquiring mail from former residences? Is it a case of nagging the Agency.....

Changing addresses when moving is a great start.

No, there is usually a self-imposed onus on the moving tenant to get his or her affairs in order.

A new tenant or the agent is not entitled to delay, interfere with or open your mail, but neither they or the landlord have any futher obligation. They may return your post through the mail, or more likely, bin it and deny ever having seen it.

I usually threw out any old mail I got to properties I rented.

Not my problem if they didn't change their address.

I've been living in my apartment for over a year. We get absolutely tonnes of post for the old tenants. Various bills every month, correspondence from Revenue, bank letters/statements. For the first couple of months we'd stick it in an envelope once a month and forward it on to the new addresses the landlord gave us. When the lazy fcukers still didn't bother doing anything after that, we used to cross out the addresses and write "return to sender - not at this address" and stick them back in the post. But still to this day we get the same volume of post for them! So we don't do anything with it now, we just throw it out with the recycling. I'm sure there are personal details in them too that they wouldn't want to be floating around in shared bins, but we put time (and expense!) into forwarding their post, or returning it to sender so fuck them!

I've seen electricity bills for seven and eight hundred Euro for previous tenants,it seems to common practice to run up a huge bill before leaving a property or just never pay it,I guess everybody else ends up paying in the end.

Did someone rename this the Psychic's Forum? None of ye cared to ask before ye started molesting the keyboard, BUT, as it happens, I HAVE changed my address for all important stuff, and anything else I can think of, but I would imagine there's a gazillion other varied stuff that would have been en-route or unknown stuff.

Perhaps, maybe next time, just stop, stop for a moment, ask yourself these things, and, consider long enough, if, you, are, assuming, incorrectly, if you are even answering the question, if you are wittering on about something else entirely different, if you have all the sufficient details and facts required to respond, before, outright operation keyboard molestation commences. Just take a deep breath in, exhale, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand TYPE! :pac:

ASSUMPTIONS without checking/asking first might be a good idea, as it avoids repetition and saves pointless molesting of the good old typewriter on yere part! ;) Not that it makes any difference to yere already-written-posts anyway, BUT, I HAVE changed addresses in so far as is possible. Also, I didn't mention one thing about other house-mates being involved?!?

Thanks anyway for yere wonderful assistance though. I do hope ye never have to collect mail from an old house.

    Have a nice day.

Yeah that aspect goes on too. Ensure Bills aren't still named to previous Tenants once you move in.

Until the Postie is actually told that they no longer reside at your address, they have to keep posting 'as addressed.' Speak to your postie or ring the sorting office to tell them the only names that should be delivered to your address.

Nah, it's not my responsibility. It doesn't bother us, we just chuck them out.

I normally would get the PO to forward the mail to my new address. You fill out a form.
If I don't get around to it, I just break into the last premises because I couldn't be doing without all the junk offers from companies I never heard of. Leaving behind my vouchers from Tesco Clubcard would be more than I could take.

We used the equivalent if this service when living overseas. It was handy :) I had to give both our names and tell them to redirect any post for those two named individuals to our new address. I think I paid for two months of the service,

We had our cat booked into a cattery for Christmas, which any pet owner will know, you need to book well in advance. The cattery sent a letter confirming our booking (a while after we made it) and asking for a deposit but addressed it to the fecking cat so it never got redirected! We almost lost the cats place but luckily the new tenant knew our surname so figured it was for us and sent it in a while later just in time for us to salvage the situation with the cattery.

So moral of the story, include your pets on the redirect, you don't know what kind of post they'll get!!

When my family moved we got the postman to the mail forwarded for us(we stayed in the same Postcode). I think its cause my parents always gave him like 3 bottles of vodka they got as gift but wont drink. 7 years later we are still getting mail from our old house weekly
