Moving house, unused heating oil

    Hey folks,

Myself and my partner are in the process of buying a house,

The house is gas heating. Our current house is oil fired heating.

We have about 400 quids worth of oil in the tank, assuming that we are moved out within the next month of course.

The house we are in at the moment is a rental house.

    Question is,

What to do with our unused oil?

Does the landlord have to compensate us for the oil?
    if not:
Do the oil companies buy it back? (I know the rate would be terrible)
    if not:
Is it possible for one of the oil companies to extract and transport the oil?

The landlord won't compensate you. The oil company won't buy it back, they might suck it out and transport it somewhere for you but the easiest thing to do is Just get 2 barrels or an IBC and pump it out yourself.

I'm sure you must have a family member that would be delighted to buy it off you for cheap. Heck, I'll buy it off you if you are selling it cheap!!

I do indeed, but, the problem is, transport.

You can buy empty 25 L drums in most filling stations these days. Get a few of them and a narrow piece of hose pipe and siphon the oil into the drums.

You might end up with a gob full of oil though. You can also hire a hand pump or a pump that you connect to a car battery.

You could buy a oil vac in a motor factors. Handy thing to have if you were handy with your car and wanted to do a oil change etc..

I would speak with your landlord first and explain the situation, he might offer it to the next tenants for you
