I want to get my work email on my phone also - we have email through gmail but I want my gmail to be my personal email and then I want to use a separate email client for work email.

Are there any other decent email apps?

Your employer probably has a preferred email client for Android or may not suppport POP3/IMAP.

My employer uses Good for Enterprise which needs server side components, but is very secure

I like Aqua Mail. It has a combined inbox, which for multiple accounts puts it ahead of the Gmail app straightaway. You can also change the appearance of it, and set it up to automatically refresh on opening the app (which I prefer to scheduled background connection).

Free version is fully functional but limited to 2 accounts.

EDIT: I just copped it that you have Google Apps for Business. The K-9 Mail app here is a great application and will do exactly what you are looking for.
I'll leave the MobiMail info for other readers

I use MobiMail. My employer requires enrolment with an MDM/MAM provider which I am not too happy with. Luckily, they also employ Exchange Server 2010, so MobiMail works works flawlessly with the OWA part of Exchange.
It is only for Exchange though!

I use Touchdown for my Exchange/Outlook 365 mail and find it great. Not the cheapest and can be initially a bit tricky to setup, but hasn't caused me any issues since.

The Gmail app on Android supports multiple accounts. Just add your employer's account to it. The app will keep the work and private emails separate and you can easily switch between them.

I find Enhanced Mail to be excellent.

I've used K9 previously and found it great.
My employer also uses good as it's very secure.

Blaz thanks yes I know I can add two accounts in Gmail and switch between them, but I'd rather not have to constantly switch back and forward, I'd prefer to have two different apps and two different icons. If I could use Gmail for both and have two different icons for opening each account that would be perfect, not sure if that's possible though.

The other thing is I use priority inbox a lot in work, as it filters out the low priority automated emails I get. The standard email client on android gives me an notification for all of them which is slightly annoying

I find the stock S4 email app works fine for my non gmails accounts but previously I've used K9 and i think it should do all you need.
