Hi I was just wondering what would be the essentials for home recording and then other pieces which can enhance it.

Essentials would be a Laptop or PC (or Mac), and a DAW, the software you're going to use. There are decent free DAWs if they suit your purpose. I'd also say a decent microphone and interface are essential, although technically they aren't.

And regarding enhancements the sky is the limit. It would depend on your current setup.

Just set one up myself and I used the following

    M-Audio 88 key digital piano
    Presonus Firebox interface
Apple Imac running logic pro (or Garageband)

Does what I need it to do!

There's a thread about getting started in home music production over in the music production forum. It contains some helpful info on getting a set up to suit you and your budget etc. There's a link to the forum under my user name, can't link as on mobile sorry

basic things (assuming you already have a computer)

    A decent mic
    a decent cable
an M-audio box (or some other jack to USB interface)
a pre-amp (if there isn't one built into the m-aduio box) i used to use a regular power mixer.
software (there are many to choose from)

You should be good to go then.
