Anyone else hav cows in calf to Aberdeen Angus TFD the past year. we had 5 of our 12 cows in calf to him. 3 calves and a set of twins died as they were very difficult calvings, they were all really big calfs.
My dad asked the AI Technician for easy calving AA's and lets him pick which bull.
3 of the cows are grand after calving but we have a really small heifer that had a nightmare calving. the calkf was alive when we had the head and legs out but he got stuck at the hips, called the vet and neigbours and it still took ages to release him. anyway calf died and the heifer was all busted. she calved 2 months ago. she was down for 2 weeks. when she stood we thought she was on the mend, all the lard fell off. But she is still poorly, she urinates a lot, tail is out from her, she kicks her back leg, her appitite comes and goes.
The vet has made numerous trips to her and no improvement.
But anyway I lost the munster ai catalogue from last year and i was wondering is that bull down as an easy calving bull. we since found out he was a test sire and has been taken off after complaints. surely test sires shudnt be down as easy calving or for heifers. does anyone have that catologue. Shud we complain to the ai man and munster ai.

go to icbf website and type in his code, he has a difficulty of 7.3% but this was between 1% and3.7% last year, obviously as you say these difficulties are coming through and putting the figures up, give ai station a ring and tell them the story...

do you mean TFX.. what type of cow did ya use him on? were they in good condition-re cows expecting the twins--did ya know before hand?
where theu overfat, or to thin?

i have used him for the last 2 seasons-and will do again, but for pedigree use--on the same cow, fired them out--very easy calving, for me!
unsure of his figures-but unsure if he's recommended for dairy heifers!

Ya definetly TFD. they were in gud condition, fed onpit silage for the winter. Didnt know 1 cow was in calf to twins. the one thing that was different this year was that they didnt get any mineral licks during the winter whereas they got them every other year and we never had these problems. maybe just a coincidence.
the other point i wud like to make is that a lot of the cows didnt really help when they were calving.
