Picked up a trooper needing a clitch at the start of the month.

Got to it yesterday replaced the clutch , now it cranks but no spluttering smoke or anything , it just won't fire.

    Any help appreciated ....

Does plugs give a spark at all? Could it be flooded?
Did it work before you replaced clutch?

    Yea was working fine afaik.
Glow plugs heat up and fuel up to the fuel lift pump.

Don't know about flooded it had sat for a few months before I bought it and had to trailer it back.

Did you try open off an injector to see if you get diesel when cranking??

if you replaced the clutch then the first thing I would check is the crankshaft sensor....maybe the sensor was damaged when the clutch was replaced...?
I'm guessing yours is the 3.0 Di engine..?

Thanks for the help folks just to let ye know where I am at the minute...

Picked up the jeep mid may, not running and told by owner that the reason it was parked was the clutch.

Put a new clutch in and replaced everything correctly booster on and cranked , and cranked but no fire.

Checked the usuals, no problems with plugs, no problems with lift pump or compression. But nothing at all coming from exhaust.

Re-split gearbox today to check the flywheel and no probs on the line up.

I am now getting a vapour from the rear exhaust but again no spark.

Just to be sure I disconnected the crankshaft sensor, tried to start it but no joy(as expected) and no fault on the computer though...Worried it might be the ecu now....

    Crankshaft sensor ordered now though,

Hope this sorts it. Not sure about this one though. Anyone any Ideas on where to go if its not the crankshaft sensor or the oil rail thing ?

What do you mean, "or the oil rail thing ?"

Is this the 3.0 litre engine. What year? can you give the engine code.

Here's a good link for info.

Thanks for getting back to me

Oil thing is the oil rail pressure sensor, tried the "white wire trick" and no go.

New crankshaft sensor in the morning (allegedly) hope that sorts it but worried as when unplugged no fault in ecu

    And yea 3l engine

Did you try the "overfill with oil trick" or try a sniff of easystart.

Is fuel getting to the injectors? Does the immobiliser warning go off? I would check if the timing belt hasnt snapped or anything as well.
Another thing also, try disconnecting the MAF.

Tried all the above bar the maf , what would that do ?

Its the Air Flow Meter. They measure the air getting into the engine and then tells the ECU what air/fuel ratio to mix. I have an Alfa and sometimes if the MAF goes then the engine wont start. Sometimes however.
Well, if everything else has been checked and all is well then I'd be looking at the ECU

Yea I'm worried about the ecu especially as when the crank sensor was unplugged it didn't throw up a fault... Ill try the maf later though.

Have you tried a bump start? If it was the crank sensor I think you can still jump start them.. not too sure though

Someone said that to me not 2 mins ago. Problem is I'm workin on this I'm the shed at home and it took me and 2 neighbours to push it in and if hate to do that tonight again if it didn't start on a pull. Lazy bsatr that I am. Even if it started on a pull it wouldn't cure the problem and I'm hoping to flog it on , either running or in parts....,
