Strange that they're only emailing about it now so. I would have thought they'd be itching to email about it as soon as it was released.

I've had this app from Google for a few weeks now. For some reason it is always active and I have to kill it to save battery. I tried to uninstall it on my Galaxy 2, but seemingly this is not an option.

Yeah I've noticed mine running in the background all right. Does it have any impact on battery life?

From what I've read in the Google Play Store, it uses a lot of juice when in use. However, when running in the background I imagine it wouldn't impact on light phone users, but may be a problem for heavy phone users.

Compared to Spotify, I've noticed that it's very heavy on the battery when in use.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭killbillvol2

There's practically no effect on battery when it's running in the background.

I assume the all access thing isn't available here. Can't find anyway to sign up

I noticed when I signed up again that it wasn't available so I went in via tunnel bear. Just use that.

    Effort...I'll just stick with spotify

I really dont like the image grid view for artists/albums. Takes ages for me to find what I want.

I love the UI personally, some of the band images are really cool.

What I notice is that when I'm streaming my library it uses way more data than Spotify. It must be streaming at a higher bit rate but I can't notice much if any difference in quality and the only option is "stream at highest quality only" which I left unchecked. At least Spotify has 3 options: normal, high and extreme.

Great service though and its free, so I'm not complaining just making an observation:pac:.

Is there any way to add a band image? Some of mine have none and would be nice to fill them up.

Just click the little dots on the top right handside and select 'edit album info'. You can change it in there. :)

    Also loving the new UI.

I found some of mine had no image for a while (Nue! for example) but after a few days they just filled up.

I have no option for "edit album info", does that only work on music you have stored on your device?

I've about 6k songs uploaded to it. If I ever press the button to keep on device it takes forever to download the songs on 10mbps broadband :-(

I think you can only change the album art that way. No options to change the band image.

    Very impressed so far.

I used to use Squeeze Commander and Squeeze Player to access my home PC but that meant I had to have it on all the time.

Its a pain in the hoop uploading all my music though.

I have a little more than 20,000 mp3s though (nearly double that) so hopefully they increase the allowance soon :)

Has anyone else experienced random skips in parts of songs when playing?

I think it's very patchy and to be honest, would expect a big increase in reliability. Too many times I've tried to play albums only for the 'the music stream is currently unavailable' message to pop up.

Do you really need that many though? I have old friends who used to try to build up as much music as possible. Huge collections, but mostly trash that they admitted that they'd never listen to.

    Very true.

Going through and deleting all the rubbish is a lot of work though :)

One thing I love about google music is the tie in between it and 'Google Now' Just ask Google Now ''what's that song'' and it will listen, tell you and provide a link to buy it in the Google music store.
Perfect for those song you randomly here on the radio you forgot about all those years ago that you loved.

So what's the catch with this? I've uploaded all my music and I'm free to listen via Android app wherever I have wifi or a data connection. No cost, no ads. Surely there's a catch somewhere?

    Nope thats it really

They just updated this app to use less data and added streaming quality options (high, normal, low).

Only thing I can really think of is its limited to 15gb. That includes gmail and drive. Not really bad though.

Did this change? I thought it was 20,000 songs (mine still has the counter and doesnt count towards my gmail/drive)

Its not 15GB, that's the storage you have split between Gmail and Google drive.

Its 20,000 songs you can upload, mine were around 35GB altogether.

I'm just waiting on my Fibre before I get cracking on uploading all the FLACs and WAVs I have, once its 20k tracks I don't know if I will ever fill it in all honesty... :-)

Correct. I've uploaded just over 5,000 songs which is about 30GB so I could possibly use 120GB (if I had that many songs!).

Any way of uploading playlists from iTunes to it? I've downloaded the music manager but that has no option for it. Seems to be an issue from what I've been reading.

Hours to days depending on your upload speed. Even with UPC (10Mb/s upload) it took a whole day as it didn't constantly utilize my full amount of bandwidth.

Any one know where music purchased from Google play store is stored on my phone?

Do the songs take up memory on your phone or is it taken up on Google's servers through the cloud?

Cached on your sd card in Android/Data/com.google.android.music/cache

I have the same and like I said, it often ceases to use your full bandwidth despite telling it to in the settings. It might still be done but don't get your hopes up. It's fine, though, just let it run in the background and enjoy what has been put up there. Every song that gets uploaded or matched is instantly available to you on the cloud.

Not there. I've read a few posts since and it seems that these files are hidden on certain devices for some reason.

Yeah, I wanted to play my offline content via power amp. Apparently this is possible but you don't see any tag info, its all "unknown artist", so kinda pointless really.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭DECEiFER

Really? The tags should be done properly, I normally download songs I purchase on my desktop and the tags are all done properly. I don't have any music on my Nexus, I'm happy enough to stream, so I can't confirm how it works when you download to a phone.

It is also a bit crap if they're saving to the /data partition and not the SD card.

If you're streaming everything how do you listen if you're abroad with no data connection? Can you still have it on your phone?

You can choose to keep songs on the device.

Also you can download them from Google Play store website directly big you want proper mp3's.
