I have not been myself and am always wary of recommendations as different people have different needs! has anyone been and can recommend a hotel or apartment complex with a decent pool and not 50 Km from any where??

Myself, and the wife, are heading down on Saturday. A convenient, central location is important to us, and so we've booked into the Novelty apartments. From my small bit of research, they seem to be clean, and well located

We found the Falcon holidays places with the kids clubs ok in Salou the couple of times we went there when the kids were younger. One place was in La Pineda near Salou. I can't remember the exact names of the apartment/hotel complexes. An apartment in a hotel is the best.
