Was in Tesco Poleberry this afternoon and no slabs on offer, came home and then saw the tesco ad splashed all over today's Star or Mirror:(

So you have to go up with single cans and not a sealed slab?

    Fair question actually.

I went up with a slab in Dunnes yesterday of Heineken. She scanned the slab barcode and then asked for €40. I told her there was a special on. She refused point blank to accept this or to scan the cans. Eventually a passing Manager intervened and had her scan the cans instead of the slab and low and behold. €25.

Not a great deal. It's cases of 15 and 300ml bottles. Lidl are doing 20 for 15 euro.

Yes i do, its my no1 beer

Brought 3 x 8 guinness to the checkout in dunnes today and they scanned at 30 euro, i said no its a mix and match and should be 25 euro, after much checking and manager with key they eventually said the offer is now 30 euro but since the label still says 25 they will honor that, they seemed confused as to what the correct price should now be but its scanning at the higher one

I also went to Dunnes with 3x8 pack Guiness to be told its 30 euro and the 25 offer is only bud, bud light and Carlsberg. Needless to say, I left it. Also tried for the 24 coke, it was 8 euro....

Just as well I included a photo of the offer, otherwise y'all would be saying I was economical with the truth!
Maybe Dunnes are doing regional offers? Dunno what's happening

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,680 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

the manager came over and I said it was ok, I would just pick up the Guinness in another dunnes later to which he replied that only bud, bud light and carls were in the memo they got. I didn't bother arguing with him but he seemed to need to defend the dunnes memo!!

Picked some up this evening, the Heineken in Dunnes is the 5%, the stock in Tesco is 4.3%, if your a Heineken Connoisseur go to Dunnes, it's in a world of its own :D

When my 3 x8 guinnes scanned at 30 euro i knew the label on the shelf included guinness and it did, so no matter what they have to go by the shelf price. If i had gone up there and left with no guinness i would have been a bit peeved i think, i may have even said i think ur memo is out of step with the rest of dunnes stores, why it that?

a memo has nothing to do with what you were charged. dunnes work on a centralised system. stores cannot dictate or change prices. it is all done from head office.

i dont know where you heard that. there has been numerous incidents of products advertised at a particular price in error. they do not have to go by the shelf price or advertised price.

According to Lidl app they have a bank holiday offer of 8 cans of carlsberg at discount of 100%. That leaves it at €0.00 for the pack. I think everyone who bought one of those near free TVs from Viking should demand one. This offer won't last so be there eArly.

you should head to lidl if you believe they have to go by shelf or advertised price. you can pick up as much carlesberg as you want

If the Guinness is scanning 3 packs for €30 then bring it to the manager's attention as they are definitely advertising it as 3 packs for €25.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,680 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

i did but manager said memo says no guinness, i didn't argue and said i would pick them up at a participating dunnes which he didn't like at all........still didn't give me the offer though. Emailed DS CS not that I expect an answer

Yip. Just went to my local Dunnes and there is no advert for the Guinness 3 for €25 - just €9.99 each. Asked staff and they said that it did not apply to Guinness. So unless you see the poster in-store including Guinness in the 3 for €25 offer then you are not going to prevail. I picked up a couple of the Heineken slabs instead - how bad!

PS I will email Dunnes customer service as well on the discrepancy. If they see a few queries it might provoke a response.

PS I just noticed that the small print states that some offers might be only available in selected stores.

Im not talking about a lidl app, when i used to work in tesco if the shelf price was incorrect (overpriced) the customer in entitled to double the difference and i believe this is still the practice, if dunnes have an offer of 3 x8 cans for 25 euro listed on their shelf u will get it for that price, ur example of the free carlsburg is ridiculous

it was just to point out that the shelf price does not have to be adhered to. there are many examples of this and can be caused by human error. it is not the case that if an sel says a price this is what it has to sell for. stores may do it as a goodwill gesture but thats down to an individuals decision.

When i worked in tesco if the shelf price was overpriced and the customer was overcharged they were entitled to double the difference and still are so thats a policy, its not store by store but a tesco policy, dunnes may have something similiar for all i know but i had no problems getting my guinness and it was incorrectly priced
