    hi,
i failed my nct as a metal bar under my car is rusty an starting to corrode thats what i was told anyway. il bring it to fast fit tomorrow and ask them to put it up on the ramps to have a look at it and get a price off them if they can fix it. its the front middle bar . it must be for safety or maybe to protect the engine in case of a head on crash but i dont know ( he highlighted the bar on the diagram on the back of the nct sheet theres 2 side bars coming from each wheel and a bar in the middle connected to them under the front bumper, well its the middle bar thats the problem.)

is it as simple as to put the car up on the ramp and replace the bar or is it a big job that you have to take the front end off the car etc..??

any1 ever have theirs done on their car so i have a rough idea on the price?

its a nissan almera 03 hatchback if that helps.

It will be the lower front crossmember which is corroded, it is a very common problem on those Almeras. It needs to be welded in so it is quite a time consuming job.

would you have an idea on how much the crossmember would be so i have an idea. i dont want to go somewhere that charges 450 for the part and labour and than find out the crossmember only cost 50 :P

thats great cheers, i just seen this thread now, so i take it this is spot on and its not a case of just putting it up on the ramp and replaceing it.

Since that thread was posted the lower section of the cross member has become available separately as per the link I posted, so there isn't quite as much work involved in the job as that. When that thread was posted the only option was a complete front panel with cross member built in.

It still involves removing the front bumper and radiator so is still pretty time consuming. It will probably cost you €300 at least for parts and labour depending on where you go.
