Epilepsy Meds and side effects

    Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone has had amy experience with Vimpat?

I was diagnosed with focal epilepsy last July and unfortunately we're still working on getting my meds right. I was on a trial which which had my seizures pretty under control - I had a few auras and one seizure which I stopped with ativan although I did have to be put on the highest dose - but I had to be taken off this due to suffering from horrible side effects such as daily painful headaches, exhausation, loss of concentration, etc. I am now on 3000mg of Keppra a day but unfortunately this doesn't seem to be enough and I am still getting seizures occasionally so my neurologist wants to add Vimpat. I don't seem to be suffering too badly from side effects on Keppra other than initially having trouble sleeping.

I have searched online for info on Vimpat and I am getting a little worried as there seems to be a lot of significant side effects - hair loss, memory loss, headaches and others. I am hoping to go into my final year of my law degree this September after having to defer this year so I really don't want anything to get in the way of that.

Has anyone had bad side effects on Vimpat and would the fact that I have had bad side effects before make it more likely for me to suffer on this one?

    Thanks
    MCR

Most Epilepsy drugs will have all them side affects listed as possible symptoms.
I was allergic to everything (including Vimpat) except Keppra , which didn't work. (then Zonegran came on the market and worked for me)
But it took 4years of trial and error of loads of different tablets.

Unless you're feeling a side affect coming on, don't worry about it. And I think the headaches are a given with Epilepsy. Whether it be side affects from your meds, or just the link between migraines and Epilepsy, but everyone I know with Epilepsy suffers badly with migraines.

    hope Vimpat works for you
