why not Bob? my idea is that for summer fattening to park it up in a field and go down twice a day and twist the handle to allow out the 6kgs per head or whatever, the novelty of driving up and down with the jeep from the yard on top of lugging three or four 30kg bags is wearing out...

Locky, I have two of them for the exact reason that you stated. The one in the picture is an AdLib version you need the AdCal - it has the crank that you control to let the feed down. You can also limit cattle with an adlib one but it is harder to manage. Also it depends on the amount of cattle that you want to use it for. The AdCal can only feed a small amout as they have to eat at the same time. The AdLib can feed any amount as they go to it when they want.

Cheers Locha, I've a few questions if you don't mind...
    • Did you buy them new?
    • What sort of money could i expect to pay for a reasonable second hand one?
    • What sort of meal will the cattle eat for summer fattening if it's available ad lib and they're in nice pasture?
    • What sort of meal will the cattle eat for winter fattening if it's available ad lib and they've nice grass in front of them?

I never owned one, but anyone of the fattening lads that had them said they were the greatest fastest way to go broke. Ad lib meal even on grass can have girls consuming over 10kgs a day and the boys even more. Do your AA really need 10kgs a day costing €3 on grass.

Do your AA really need 10kgs a day costing €3 on grass- they do if i want them to rocket into the overfat category :(
Fair enough Bob, I thought with the ad-lib machine I'd be able to release 6kgs a head down the fields...
Having looked it up i think it's the ad-cal machine i'm looking for which allows you to let out a certain amount per head.

can your fattening business really afford such a machine. if its saving allot of time for you maybe, but with the returns investment is best be minimal

Cheers Bob, wise advise as always, I'm actually thinking of putting an old fridge container (8' x 8' 12') onto an old hay trailer chassis and mounting a few feeders either side...
A poor man's cal-lib feeder, it's really to allow me to ewalk down the fields rather than having to drive down morning and evening;)
