Terrible battery life in Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini

I've been using one for the last couple weeks after getting a very cheap upgrade from the iPhone 4. The battery life is shockingly bad

I've learned all the tricks, like turning off wifi, gps, mobile data, sticking on power saving, clearing ram quite often and closing apps.

Then why when going to bed sometimes at night with 90% battery, I wake up 8 hours later with battery of only 45%

    Is there something I'm missing?

There is probably a lot going on in the background like facebook, gmail etc all trying to sync. I got Powermax for my Galaxy S2 and when its on the battery loses about 0.5 % an hour when its not in use. I recommend using the widget. That way you can just click it on and off when you need to save battery.

No, Samsung Galaxy phones are terrible. Avoid at all costs.

    Real useful answer.

You should only be getting a 2 - 4% drop overnight OP. I'm getting 2 & half days out my s3 solid now, admittedly with long stretches of no use, at work & overnight. The last thing i discovered needlessly draining the battery was google maps. I unchecked 'report from this device' somewhere in the settings & that was that.

Right now I"m turning off mobile data, wireless at every opportunity. And I clear ram as often as I can. Overnight now I'm going down about 6-7% (8 hours).

I've got the screen on the darkest, gps is always off, and while battery life has improved, the iPhone 4 battery was 10 times better.

I was of the impression that the S3's battery was meant to be better?

Yes the S3's battery is better. The S3 mini on the other hand only has a 1500 mAh battery, the same size battery as my 3 year old HTC Desire.

You should try an app like Wakelock Detector to check for any spurious wakelocks, then use something like Greenify if you're rooted to take care of them.

You cant compare the two, ones a 200E handset, the others 500E.

The mini is a budget device, dont expect premium performance.
