most birds would have nested now.
but still not a bad time to put it out, to allow the box to season.

Put the box out and make sure it is as close to being in a North facing spot as you can. A box that gets a lot of direct sunshine every day is a potential death trap for young chicks as the box will overheat. Also try to have it where there is some cover from pedators and for when the chicks fledge.

It is late in the season in one way, but many of the smaller garden birds that would use a nestbox with a 25mm hole can have two to three broods to their names by the time we hit August so you might get lucky.

Even if it is not used for breeding purposes this year, it will still provide a spot for birds to roost now and also when winter hits.

I have the hole facing east north east attached to a fence which is about 5ft 10" from the, ground and is in a corner with a 90° wall facing north if that makes sense.

I cant attach pics as it wont work for me on mobile

Around 6 ft high will do. I have several at that height with no problems. It's never too late and always the right time to put up nest boxes. Later clutches may use them or they will become familiar to the birds for use next year.

I'd say go for it - last year there was loads of late broods due to the rubbish weather. Things are even worse this year so your chances are further increased

BTO advice is one to three metres so five foot ten is fine, honestly. Leave it where it is.
