Apologies in advance for stupid questions.

I have a 2007 Ford Focus LX Connection with loads of electric extras that I don't really need.
Anyhoo, I've had a couple of problems in the past few months since I bought it, regarding the battery going flat. I have a sneaking suspicion that not engaging the steering lock before leaving the car has something to do with this.
Can anyone tell me if this is possible?

Also, at work, I have to walk past my car occasionally during the day. If I have my fob in my pocket, will the car automatically recognise this, hence, activating the dash etc?
It takes the car a full hour to turn off completely after I have left it.

Another stupid question - a situation may arise soon where I have to sleep in my car for a night! Is this possible while the car recognises the fob and I am in the car? Will it still turn itself completely off after an hour even though I am still in it?

    I feel completely thick.
Thanks in advance if anyone replies to this!
