Can I ask anyone who uses the Torque app what Bluetooth adapter do you use? I bought one on ebay and it is a pile of rubbish, wont even connect most of the time and the quality of it is very poor...

So can anyone tell me which they use or recommend one maybe?

    Cheers

What sort of car do you have? Because in some cases it doesn't matter what adapter you have - it simply won't communicate (which I found out with ours :( )

I had the same issues, but there's a software setting in Torque.

Go to Settings --> OBD2 Adapter Settings and enable the "Disable ELM327 auto timing" setting.

I got reliable communication after that, from one of those cheapy bluetooth adapters.

Yep, that looks like mine too.

Ps. your eBay link says €18.99.

I got mine a while back in DealExtreme... DX Link

Note : $11.30 ( US Dollars with free shipping )

Although with DealExtreme you have to be patient and wait about 4-6 weeks for it to arrive from China.

There's newer versions of that adapter in DealExtreme, so it may be worth a few quid for the slightly more expensive ones.

Have you another Android phone you could try it on ?
The Bluetooth stack on a few of them is a bit funny which can cause problems with various devices, e.g. had an Alcatel that had awful problems that was partially solved with a firmware update.

Now have a Samsung i9100 that works fine, but doesn't work well with some bluetooth audio devices properly, whereas my Nexus 7 Tablet works perfectly with everything.

Just so you know, all those adapters have pretty much the same internals. So its very much down to the phone and car. The chip manufacturer's make an OBD interface and then a Bluetooth handle. Then its just repackaged under various names and in various styles. Never got Bluetooth working under Windows but was great on MacOS.

There are a number of places where you could be loosing the connection, first place to look at is the bluetooth link between the phone and dongle, try pairing this again in the android settings, also try to avoid having other bluetooth devices around (turn off the car radio etc), which I have found use to interfere somehow. Next up make sure you have the bluetooth paired in the actually torque app itself. Go to the adaptor status in the torque app then, and see if its connecting correctly, there is an error count in there also, which will tell you straight out if you have a dodgy dongle, it would certainly cause the link to be intermittent and slow.

There are a number of other boxes that can be ticked in the apps settings also, to allow you "tinker" with the connection abit, and try and achieve the quickest connection possible while staying stable.

Finally, as someone asked, what car are you using on it, many early '00 were obd compliant, but could only provide at best 4 readings per second, so if you have say 12 dials up on the display screen, each one on average might only get updated every 3seconds, some even much longer than this.

I got mine a few years back. I went for the more expensive PLX Kiwi one and its fantastic. It has a handy power switch on it so as not to drain the battery when the car is off.

Cant remember where i got mine, but thats the model i got. Paid about €90 incld delivery.

I have a cheapo ELM327 adapter, and Torquepro. It worked well on a BMW, an Audi, eventually worked in my own Alfa, wouldn't work in a 02 peugeot 406. The blutooth connection was sound, but the problem with the peugeot was 'not connecting to ECU' this was also the problem with the Alfa for a few days, then it just worked one day. You mention the adapter error count, and mine is very high, over 37 on a 15 minute drive, so although i'm getting lots of dat back on the tourque app, you say the adaptor migh not be 100 percent? I'd like to know, as i have'nt been able to get the Alfaobd diagnostics app to connect past the bluetooth stage, keep getting the 'ecu (controller) not connected error' and something about baud rates. the thing is there is no method of changing anything about the adaptor or its protocols in Alfaobd app. Has anyone connected this app to an alfa using an elm 327 adapter? Does anyone get 0 errors while using torque pro with and Elm 327 adapter.
