Summer's here, it's the wedding season, I'm buying a new suit and trying to decide what to wear with it.

Navy suit, so what colour shoes are the best bet? Something's saying a dark chocolate brown, but what do you fashionistas say??

....also - the suit it's self. I need a 44 jacket, a 34 waist and 29-30in inside leg. I'm awkward as hell. Where's the best place to go with a budget in the €300 range?

What's the typical turn around time for alterations to be made?

    THank ya :)

If you want to avoid black shoes and the wedding isn't too formal then a a dark brown or dark burgundy goes well.

For 300E (alterations included in budget?) then I'd go with one of M&S's pure wool ranges like Ultimate, Authograph or Collezione as they will allow you to mix and match the jacket and trousers.

If you're a 44 jacket and 34 waist then I'd try to go with the Autograph range. It's a bit more fashion forward and has the more English shape of higher armholes and more waist suppression to accentuate the physique.

That said as well, I find I need to go up a waist size compared to what I need in order to get the benefit of the increased leg opening size in the bigger waist.
E.g. I'm a 34/36 waist but 34 just isn't happening on account of the trouser leg size, unless I want to look like I'm wearing suit leggings. 36 is doable but 38 is best. 10-15E to have the waistband taken in so that a belt works and I'm good to go.

Alterations should be done in 2-3 days by most places. I'd recommend Des Byrnes or the Alterations Centre on Grafton St or Anne St. South respectively if you're going to be in the city centre.

If you're going to be on the Northside however then there's a place beside Graingers Pub on the Malahide Road, just by the junction with Griffith Avenue. It's small and not much to look at but they do great work for a good price.

I second Marks and Spencer ranges, excellent variety of sizes. Also, re the shoes - tan are the classic option to go with navy. They can then also be worn with the suit jacket and a pair of dark wash jeans for a more casual look

You could get something nice in Louis Copeland, in the sales - I got a fantastic navy Hugo Boss suit for 350 quid. So versatile, will go with any shirt / tie combo!

And yes to the chocolate brown shoes - that's what I'm wearing right now! BT have excellent shoes - may I recommend Grenson - will cost as much as your suit but worth it! Shoes for life!

Oh and burgundy shoes are really good with a navy suit. I just ordered these: Grenson-Kirk-Burgundy-Calf.jpg
