playing mp3 CDs on Ford Focus

    Hey Folks

I have a 2009 Ford Focus with a CD player (6000 CD model). The manual says it can play CDs with mp3 tracks on it. However when I burn a CD with mp3 tracks the CD player can't read the CD and says 'CD Error' which from the manual means the player can't read the disc.

Do you have to burn the CD in a specific way? Do you have to use a specific type of CD?

Generally it must be CDR and not CDRW discs. Also could be folder structure you are putting the mp3s in is not supported by the CD player, try putting 200 tracks loose on the CD to see if that works. Make sure you choose to close the CD and not leave open when burning, this causes problems too.

It could be the speed at which you are burning them, try burning them at the lowest speed possible.

I think what you're doing is burning MP3s onto a CD in data format. What the manual means is that you can make a normal audio CD using MP3s but burn it in audio format.

The data format allows you to have maybe 120 songs on 1 CD whereas the audio format allows about 20.

I doubt that. MP3s burned as audio format is simply a regular Audio CD. No point mentioning that at all.

How are you burning them. I had a problem this week, trying to burn MP3 CD's with XPCDBurner. Just wouldn't work. Had no problems with Imgburn. Which was annoying because I've been using XPCDBurner for years. It has a better interface.

Why not use the AUX port and USB?

because the factory fitted 6000cd model doesnt have aux in or usb, thats the reason i removed mine.

it also doesnt, as far as i'm aware play mp3 cd's. are you sure the manual refers to the 6000 model when mentioning mp3 cd's? if so, like mentioned above make sure you're finalising cd-r's when burning.

Well it's not impossible to fit one. A few quid on ebay for the cable. Or just use a aux cable in the back of the rca ports for a line in?

i'm not at home right now to check, but as far as i know there is no line in. some ghia models (very few i think, mine didnt) had an aux in the glovebox, but if thats not there you're out of luck. i found it actually easier to replace the head unit entirely. I wanted bluetooth audio streaming anyway and the 6000 doesnt provide that.

I know that but what I'm trying to say is that the manual might mean that you can do this and not just play real CDs.

OP, is there a * beside where it says that it plays MP3s and then at the bottom of the page it says "only in selected models" or something along those lines?

Your fascia would need to be like the one pictured above with "MP3" written on the front in order for it play MP3s.
