Lagrange's equation and the course of a river.

    we are having a discussion in work about whether or not you can predict the route a river will take to the sea using Lagarage's equation.
    I am on the side of saying no as I feel that the problem will have insufficient constraints, but I can't prove it.
    I really wouldn't mind being wrong if I knew the answer!
