See title. I have no idea whether I want to go down the surgical, medical, GP or other route. I really did like all my rotations. Problem is committing to any one.

Is it really bad to still be this indecisive? Are many others in my situation getting things organised already to give them the edge when applying to their specialties? Any suggestions on things I could be doing.

I have weeks off now and really feel (hindsight is wonderful) that I should have organised something like an elective for this period or at least a couple of weeks.

The only advice I can give you is to try and forget about this for a little while and enjoy your time off. You will not get this time off again and make the most of it! Your intern year will give you a flavour of what you like and don't like and its very different I found when your working than when your a student. You will start applying for schemes in January so you will have plenty of time to find what makes you tick (or not) in the first 6 months. Take a break and a holiday. You will not get this time again unless you take a career break :)

I'm about to complete my 5th postgraduate year and I'm yet to finish a formal training programme and I've yet to successfully complete any exams. All because I decided to go away after intern year, then ended up staying abroad and did what was effectively an SHO scheme, came home as a reg and decided my goals had changed.

I accept it personal circumstances come into it in a big way, but at the end of the day there's no rush to getting on a particular career path (arguably easier with everyone leaving if you decide to stay in Ireland!) and there's definitely no replacement for clinical experience, regardless of where and in what area it's gained.

Sillymoo gives good advice, get away, clear your head first, enjoy your rotations, chat to the other members on your team once you've gained a flavour for things. If you haven't come up with something by January, you'll find you're far from alone!
