    "128 x 128 pixels"
    Just lol.

Amazing how far tech has come, this'd be absolutely top of the line 7 or 8 years ago.

Unfortunately these phones are locked to Tesco Mobile ... :(

What I love about Tesco mobile is that you get to pick your number, and if you look carefully through all the boxes in store you might find a real gem every now and then. Maybe it's because the network is relatively young and they still have plenty of phone numbers available. If the phone in the box is cheap that's even better :)
But seriously, if you need a phone just to make calls those cheap dumbphones are great and usually last ages on a single charge. What more can you expect for next to nothing?

I actually went to the carphone warehouse a few days ago looking for a cheap unlocked phone and they had something similar to this for €25. Am off to Asia next month so think I'll get a cheap phone rather than risk taking the iPhone as I no longer have it insured.

Thanks Oracle for that tip, I was looking for a cheap phone which can take my Tesco Sim card when I'm in a country where I use a local sim chip to avoid bad roaming charges. 9.99 including delivery is a bargain.

Have a look on amazon. The Samsung e1200 cost me about €15 unlocked. Although I was buying some other stuff so the delivery was free.

Thanks for that. It's £14, that's about €16.50, sim free at Amazon. Use Parcel Motel, or spend an extra £11 ( ie. 2 phones) to get Free Super Saver Delivery.

Got one and its locked to Tesco. Anyone got a link to free or cheap unlock?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,392 ✭✭✭TequilaMockingBird

I bought 2 of these recently. My daughter was going abroad and I wanted to be able to talk as cheaply as possible.

I topped up both phones with €10 - then they double your credit to €20.

For me to call her (in Sweden) was free! And she used about €3 ringing me, this was talking every day for 5 days. According to the website, the calls shouldn't have been free, but still cheaper than others.

    I hope this makes sense.

And they are a dinky little phone!

I'm not sure about the permanent unlock, but there's a temporary unlock method. That means if you turn the phone off, it'll be locked again. These instructions work up to step 6, giving a temp unlock. Just to add, I'd use a cocktail stick/toothpick, rather than a screwdriver, to push in the SIM: http://www.hotukdeals.com/misc/samsung-e1120-free-unlock-code-701443

The price has increased using the previous link, still £14 unlocked here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-Electronic-GmbH-GT-E1200ZKADBT-E1200/dp/B0079JZ4O2

Quick question before I buy this; at the checkout screen, it has all the usual fields for entry and then a "Mobile Number" field marked with a red asterix?

Are you supposed to enter your current number? I don't want my actual number ported over to this phone, I just want it as something on the side..

I am pretty sure that number they want is just for the delivery person.

You will be given an 089 number, you have to do stuff to port your number

    http://www.tescomobile.ie/move-my-mobile-number.aspx

But when I enter in a number, there seems to be a glitch, it just keeps saying Mobile is Required

How do Samsung make any margin on these phones?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,630 ✭✭✭Oracle

I think they make a good margin. I'd say they cost less than a euro to manufacture.

I have no major real reason to buy this phone. I already have a cheap little spare phone.

Maybe it will do for somebodies christmas present or as a spare spare phone to be kept in the car.

How much is that handset in stores? Seems to be different pricing between online and instore for most handsets

Yes you're right, I think they're €18.99 (regular price) in store. The last time they were the same price in store as online at €9.99, now it's €9.99 online only. I think Carphone Warehouse have them for €5 or €10, but with a topup and network switch.
