Just hearing this on BBC24, a number of Typhoon Jets have taken off to intercept a plane bound for Manchester, from Pakistani, than has been redirected to Stanstead.

No further reports yet. Hopefully no more than an over reaction, or lost contact from the control towers.

    RAF jets scrambled after incident

RAF Typhoon jets have been launched to investigate an incident involving a civilian aircraft in UK airspace, the Ministry of Defence has said.

Reports said the aircraft was a Pakistani passenger plane which had been diverted from Manchester to Stansted Airport.

I think the most sensible course of action here is to panic and speculate wildly.

    RAF Typhoons Scrabbled in England

    Edit.

The Beeb are now saying there was a distrubance on board and plane has landed.

Have heard a number of times my self, that Stanstead is known as the Hi-Jack Airport due to the size of its taxiways and their remoteness from the terminal buildings.

The Typhoon brigade keeps calling Wolf

Can't fault them for it though. Quick response time and a damned prudent response.

I'm supposed to be flying into Stansted this evening. Really not in the mood for the potential delays this might cause

I wonder what actually happened aboard the plane.

Can't help but think what would we do if something similar happened over Irish airspace. Obviously the chances of any terrorism over Irish airspace is much smaller but still.

Possibly info about a passenger onboard filtered through to Manchester airport prior to it landing so it was sent to Stanstead.

Stanstead airport is the location that all 'terror' (for want of a better word planes are routed to.

I'm sure we'd get help from the mainland.

2 passengers have been arrested on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft.

The reason that 'planes with "problems" got to Stansted is that they have dedicated areas set up there that are away from the main terminal building and have approach tunnels that allow whoever needs to to approach and enter a 'plane without being seen from onboard the 'plane.

Disturbance eh? Probably someone on board that wouldn't stop singing. Hence the fighter jet escort. Can't be too careful these days.

They don't usually call in the fighter jets for a couple of drunks

Was 10 mins from landing in Manchester, be surprised if they diverted to Stanstead for a couple of drunks.

I'd say there's one or two nervous heads working in airport security over in the UK at the moment...

apparently, it was a husband and wife having an argument :D

Two men were arrested at the airport on suspicion of endangerment of an aircraft, Essex Police said.

The incident is not thought to be terrorism-related at this stage, it is understood.

I wonder how the other passengers reacted?

i thought after 9/11 anyone trying a stunt like this would end up badly beaten or dead

Id say if you decided to tackle these guys, you would want to have the support of 2 or 3 other people, it would be hard to react quickly when in a confined space. A tazer would do the trick.

Probably wouldn't notice. It would be first class and all kinds of freaky **** goes on in longhaul first class anyway. Or so I've heard.

You should get a private jet. We just can't risk these potential catastrophes causing you to arrive late.

    It's just not on.

It was entirely innocent, they heard it would be a good location for a corner shop and were just trying to beat the rush.

We'd call them some nasty names and throw stones at them. They have to come down sooner or later.
