Hey, I am looking to stay in London for a while for the summer and am not sure if am eligible to claim benefits over there? I hear from some people I am entitled to. I am a twenty two year old university student over here. Does anyone have any advice for me when I'm going over? If I am entitled to it, what documentation would be required? Thanks, any advice appreciated.

What exactly is your status? Are you already on benefits??

You can claim in the UK if you're on JSB. Benefit can be transferred for a period of 78 days, I think, but it takes a while to kick in. I do know if you're on JSA then you cannot claim. Same goes for BTEA.

Your best bet is to try to score work whilst you're over. Bar/shop work should be fairly easy to find. Get an NI No. organised (search this forum or the Work Jobs forum for how to do it). You'll also need a UK bank account for your dosh.

    Hope this helps!

thanks a lot. no i'm not on benefits over here at all. Yeah I think scoring some work would be more benefical but just wanted to know what I'm entitled to.
