Does anyone how to remove the heater control panel and replace the light bulbs on a 2004 Toyota Avensis, or is an expensive dealership jobby!:(

As half of the air flow selector control knob is in the dark!

    Thanks!

i did it myself a few months back - had three of them blown.
step 1 go to toyota dealer and buy 3 black bulbs and one grey for the heater controls (replace all 4 while you are at it)
step 2 the strip which has the cup holder needs to be removed. Open passengers door and flick it off with a screwdriver. Then pull out the whole thing.
step 3 twist gear knob off
step 4 pull the gear leather up hard - panel will pop off
step 5 gear gator panel and panel with cup holder are now attached by wires to car - unhook these at the connections
step 6 you will now see 4 gold coloured bolts two above the radio two below the heater controls - remove all 4.
step 7 unhook all connections from back of radio and heater controls.
step 8 pull heater controls and radio out of car.
step 9 remove bolts/screws holding radio and heater controls together. The metal piece holding them together will then come off
step 10 hold the radio and move the heater controls from side to side - they will separate.
step 11 remove clips on top and bottom of control (there might be 4 screws too)
step 12 you should now see a green circuit board with 3 black and one grey plastic bits these are the bulbs - remove and replace - to get the new ones in you will have to force them a bit
step 13 put it all back together again

job done in about 20 mins
Where abouts in the country are you OP - if your close to me i can give a hand

It sounds like a big job for a little bulb. Thanks for the offer, but the car is due a full service soon, so i'll see if my mechanic can can do it, if not or its going to cost a bomb. I'll live with it!

    Thanks anyway!

It is not that hard but tis up to yourself. If you get your mechanic to do it and he is an independent mechanic then might be best you buy the bulbs before hand as i found tracking them down to be the hardest part - got them from a main dealer they were about 4 euro a pop. I would also recommend you get three black ones and one grey and replace them al while you are doing it. My car is about the same age as yours and they all went at about the same time.
