Okay, so i'm just looking for a bit of a project to take on - and as i've noticed a bit of corrosion on my brake calipers I thought I'd address them.

Of course in the process of dismantling and cleaning up with drill and wire rotary brush, I have the opportunity to paint them. I can get red brake caliper paint pretty cheap from Halfords: So, i'll leave the judgment call with the majority vote:

so, Paint them red or don't touch? 18 votes

    YAAAR, GO RED!!! :D

    looks tidy.

silver or glossy black would look good either.. anything is better than rust!!!

Didn't vote...look good in the picture, but they never look right in person. If anything, to tidy them up go with Black.

Another fan of black calipers here too :)

    Not red though.

Finally got a dry week to do mine, and im working straight through it :p

Red looks ok but make sure it's not the awful pale red that some people use that looks awful (like a faded 1998 corolla non metallic saloon)

Yeah, red callipers looks nice on a black car imo. Go for it :)

arggggghhhh, now i'm torn between black and red lol!

hmmm, Halfords dont sell black caliper paint... i'd have to order it online which means I couldn't do it this weekend....

    leaning towards red....

My advice is to forget about the Halfords paint and instead use Hammerite Direct to Rust paint followed with Halfords petrol resistant lacquer.

Not a fan to be honest,i painted them red on my old golf years ago and as soon as i did it i regretted it as it just kind of highlighted how small and puny the were :D

    black or silver for me.

And not to spray on a windy day, and cover your entire car before spraying...

    Right, MM? :pac:

i'm more inclined to go for a spray application than a brush application as it will give a more uniform finish. oh i'll cover the shit outta the car in newspaper don't worry!

In other news, the bonnet replacement I was waiting for; wen't up to the Yodel depot to collect it, corner was poking out through the box and was complelety bent back wards and scratched to shit. Fan-bloody-tastic. Had to refuse delivery.

Dont EVER do red if your calipers dont justify is it.

As yours are actually puny it will make your car look hilarious.

But its your car, if your okay with looking hilarious on puny stand out calipers more power to you.

I prefer not to look hilarious.

or put brembos on it and justify it..... ;)

Use hammerite smooth finish. 2 coats brushed on. The surface of normal calipers are rough so you are never going to get a smooth finish anyway even with a spray unless you take them off and do a lot of sanding.

Here is a quick guide I done up when I done mine

Forget about the red and just concentrate on getting rid of the rust look. Go for black and be done with it!

Unless they're Brembos, keep them black.

...pretend they're carbon brakes, and the calipers on those are yellow :)

...btw, see how my black ones turned out, here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=72561088

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
