TERRIBLE Movie Posters

I was passing the cinema in Blanch the other day and picked up that little booklet they give out (Hey, I was having something to eat and forgot my reader!) anyway, there was a poster for De Niro's new film "The Big Wedding" and it just struck me how awful it looked: De Niro's looking like a homicidal maniac, Sarandon looks like she's been shot in the back.... It's got Diane Keaton in it and it looks like it was photoshopped in about 5 minutes from images from totally unrelated movies, the bland "reviews".

There have been some hideous posters out there: There's one with Mathew Perry and Liz Hurley, can't remember the name, can't be bothered to look up IMDb but I remember the poster; Identity Theft with Jason Bateman and some woman you want to punch in the face because of the poster and on and on.

So, here's the thing: Have you a favourite terrible movie poster and has a bad poster ever put you off going to a movie?

There are countless pages on the web that have highlighted badly photoshopped movie posters, which are the worst offenders, but when I read your post, this one immediately came to mind. This wasn't the poster, but it was used as the cover of the DVD (and there was another version with Rudd on the couch and the three women standing behind it). It's horrendous. None of them have any depth - they look like cardboard cut-outs. Elizabeth Banks looks like she's had her face superimposed on another person's body, like the infamous Lee Harvey Oswald rifle photo. And bizarrely, Zooey Deschanel looks more like what Emily Mortimer usually looks like. Appalling.

Also, any Tom Cruise film, no matter what the setting or premise of the film, the poster is nearly always, just his face!

The funny thing with that Idiot Brother poster is that Paul Rudd looks like Paul Rudd, while the others look like mannequins that barely look like the actresses they're supposed to imitate.

Those Ghana posters are absolutely brilliant. Every movie poster should look like them. The make the films look way more fun.

'Oblivion' had some of the most stylish posters this year IMO.

Love those Ghanaian posters, oh wait not the idea though is it! :pac:

Its pointless listing modern example as there are quite literally too many to mention, however here is one from the good old days that managed to miss the essence of the film - this is the USA poster. Pale and uninteresting for drama that unfolds overwhelmingly under the orange of Sodium-vapor lighting



The European quad on the other hand nails it, with the kinetic energy and drama caught by the "Ben Hur" lettering, expressions, tag line, gunfire and cars

That's one thing that truly irritates me about movie posters. Good and Bad.
When the names don't match the line up from left to right.

If it wasn't for the fact it's already been filmed, I'd assume no more than two of those people had ever been in the same room at the same time.
