    Hi,

Just recently taken up a bit of cycling, and using an old mountain bike I had which is not great.

Anyone have any recomendations for a decent starter bike for a newbie?

Can use Bike to Work scheme, but havent a clue what to go for.

    Thanks.

Search the forum. I'm not being smart, but there are tonnes or reccomendations that will most likely not be re posted here in this thread.

This forum is great.. find the general list much like what seamus has suggested, do a bit of research on your own and if you have any further questions, ask them here!

Also, a good idea to let people know what your budget is, and what you intend using the bike for (commuting, recreation etc....).

    /thread

Trek 1.1 goes with Defy 4 or Allez around €750 to 800

Next up Trek 1.2 with Defy 3 and Specialized Allez Sport around €850 to 900.

For around €1000 you can go Trek 1.5, Defy 2 or Allez Elite.

For max value go Belfast to Decathalon and get Triban 7 for €700 equivelant to Defy3,Trek1.2 etc. Or their FC3 carbon bike for €1000 with tiagra groupset. Cracking value. Not sure if u can bike2work up there.

The above are all pretty relaxed geometry. There are lots of other great bikes but these seem to be the big selling entry level.

BTW rules discussion is for the relevant megathread (linked from the Charter/FAQs), but to close this off here you can buy from anywhere provided your employer allows it (as they actually do the buying)
