A copper band is a great job for this. You get a band of copper flashing and slide it under the top row of slates and when the rainwater runs off the copper and on to the roof it kills the moss. If I'm ever slating a roof I like to use copper nails or copper rivets to fix the slates.

Good tip. What should be done to remove the moss then? I also need to clean my slate roof but there is also lichen etc on it. I imagine that Any power washing etc should be Done from the top down

I used the head of a yard brush with a very long handle made from a couple of 2x1's, be gentle so as not to the disturb the slates, it was quite effective.

The copper strip is the best way to keep a slate roof clear of moss in the first instance. I've used a garden hoe (used very gently) and sweeping brush to remove moss from a slate roof in the past.

i understand what you're saying about the copper strip...but i'm talking about a chemical spray as my roof is already full of moss, so whats the best chemical spray to use that won't discolour or damage the waterproofing of the tiles
