    How's things,

I have a field at back and side of my house that needs cutting.
All together it is approx half an acre, neighbours field is beside it with no fencing so might do the lot which is approx 1 acre.

It is well overgrown with the grass approx 50cm high.

It's in Athenry and we only just moved here so don't know anyone.
Does anyone know of anyone in Athenry that could cut the field?
And would they take the cut grass away?
    For a good price

    Cheers

I'd say by the time a fella'd have that grass cut and gathered it'd hardly be worth his while for the few bales. I'd say you'll have to give him some few pound to cover his time. I hope you have a good shovel handy.

that's what I meant, how much would it cost me to pay someone to cut the grass and take it away

Put up an add in the local co op / agristore and you should get plenty of interest

At the mo' absolutely nothing. Put a small poster up in any local village and you're problem will be sorted in 24 hours unless the grass is heavily contaminated with dogs**t. If it is contaminated then how long is a piece of string. It'll run you at least a couple of hundred to get rid of. I'd buy one of those SIM only jobs in Tesco or somewhere similar before I put up the posters though and I'd still keep the shovel handy if it's not contaminated.

Ya I don't think you will have any problem getting it done for free.

Farmers are stuck for grass/fodder at the moment.

Is there anything in the field that would damage a mower?

Wouldn't like to be buying anything off you :p That's a dodgy used car salesman trick.

    Cheers for the info lads,

Havin a field is new to me so not sure of the ins and outs of cutting costs and farmers using the grass etc, so their payment would be the grass then?

It's not contaminated, just hasn't been cut in a long time I'd say.
We bought the house in January and people before us didn't have animals in it so there is no s..t in it, just overgrown.

I'd just be happy to see a nice cut field around the property and if farmer can come and cut it and take away the grass as payment then were all winners! :)

approach your nearest neighbouring farmers first, even if they are not interested
it's one way of getting to know them

Whenever I sell anything on donedeal I use a Tesco phone purely because of all the nutters that ring you .... and ring you .... and ring you.

OP I'd agree with jomoloney about approaching the neighbouring farmers first. They may appreciate the offer and that could be a good idea in the long run.

You could call around to the nearest halting site and look for a few hosses to graze it ,:D

    :-)
Seriously, someone with a few goats, asses or sheep would be mighty glad to graze it down for you no doubt. Scythe it down first if needs be.
