Sorry to resurrect; I'm planning to strip out my Focus ST170 as much as possible; I presume they wouldn't be impressed to find the dash removed and replaced with a dash computer of some sort?
I imagine removing the back seats and upholstery would be ok?
    Carpets?
    replacing windows with perspex?
    Steering wheel and airbags?

Airbags will be an issue if they go by the book. You may have to re-fit them which would be a nightmare. Airbags and ABS light as far as i'm aware need to work.

You will have to get on the phone to them as you have gone so far that your car its in race car territory.

NCT manual also will need a read.

The rear window and side windows can be pollycarbonate.

You need to have glass windows in the front doors and front windscreen

All you need to to do is look at the Megan R26.R which has a roll cage and pollycarbonate windows.

Its all legal too...it has to be.There 1 or 2 for sale here in Ireland at the moment.:)

if you replace the windows you will need a report verifying that that they have been replaced with safety glass. As it stands you can remove the airbag/steering wheel but you must remove all components of the airbag system that's obvious to the naked eye, ie. pass side airbag, curtain airbag etc and disconnect the light obviously. All cars that come from factory as standard will have a cerftication on each and every glass window, its just a little symbol in the corner of each wondow and it will have the letter 'e' on it.

Where windscreens, side or rear windows are fitted with glazing material other than safety glass the vehicle owner shall provide a certificate from the manufacturer or installer stating that the glazing material is not likely, if fractured, to produce fragments capable of causing severe cuts. In the case of rally cars, this may take the form of a note from the Technical Commissioner of the RIAC in the vehicle log book.
