Has anyone got any recommendation for a very good multivitamin ?

I have a long term illness and among the many strategies I've tried in dealing with it is giving up gluten. That's helped a little and over all I'm nutrition conscious and eat very well. However I've found out recently I am very anemic despite eating red meat twice a week and chicken broccoli and spinnach daily.I get plenty vitamin C too. I have never had anemia before.I think maybe the gluten free diet has meant I've been missing an extra nutritional boost from fortified breads and cereals. So I'm on iron supplements but now I'm wondering if I'm difficient in other things too. Is there any very good multivitamin out there that might just ensure I'm getting enough good stuff ?

Have you been tested for mineral deficiencies? Might be best to see what you're lacking and pick your supplements to suit.

No I haven't, I just had the iron test. Id love to get more tests and know for certain sure where I should be concentrating harder in my diet but I don't think my dr does them.

Are you sure you know why you are anemic? All the supplements in the world won't address the anemia long term if there is an underlying issue.

In any case the best iron supplement is liver. It doesn't constipate you like regular iron sups and it also contains a range of other vitamins to ensure iron gets where it needs to go. You could call it nature's multivitamin.:)

If you are concerned you might be missing out on anything else, plug a couple of day's diet into cronometer:

    http://cronometer.com/

It will quickly show what you are missing from your diet, if anything.

I think it's always better to supplement with food that contain all the relevant co-factors than with isolated pills.
