Registration is open for this, one of my favourite sportives and a cracking day is guaranteed.
The 110 is tough and the 160 is for sadists .

I've changed the thread title. Yes, this has got to be the most awesome sportive of the year and I am in no way biased.

Assuming it doesn't clash with the Tour of Wexford, then I'm in!

It's usually the day after, I don't see it on my calendar though. A good chance to see the sunny south east in two days.

It's a month away now, Saturday 3rd of August. We had many committee meetings on who should launch it and I wanted to get someone instantly recognisable as being associated with Kilkenny, Henry, DJ, Cody? Had to be a hurler, that's what we're famous for. Being the only Kilkenny man on the committee I was not going to have my way but we did get an all-Ireland winner in football, a former Munster lock and legend with 41 caps for Ireland, Mick Galwey. Anyone who has done the TdKK before knows that the start and end is Kilkenny rugby club, who have been very kind to let us use their facility.

    Tour%20de%20Kilkenny%20Launch-1.jpg?__SQUARESPACE_CACHEVERSION=1371035289057

This is our fifth Tour de Kilkenny and as the numbers have grown, we've taken the decision to include some local charities. Along with Barrettstown, Relay for Life Irish Cancer Society, The Irish Pilgrimage Trust and Camphill communities of Ireland will also benefit from this years tour.

The routes are the same as in previous years, 160km, 110km, 70km and 40km. The 160km and 110km take in the hills of Copanagh and Woodstock. For the 110km there's a small little kick at the end in Bennetsbridge. The 160km has more hills to climb at Templeorum, Kilmoganny and a final kick at Kilmanagh. The 70km takes in Copanagh and the wee kick out of Bennetsbridge and the 40km has two kicks in Bennetsbridge.

We are also delighted that the Bikestore located not too far from the start will be open late on Friday to facilitate any last minute needs. They will also be on hand Saturday morning to help. We will also have sign on in the rugby club on Friday evening. Entry is €25 for the 160km and 110km, €20 for 70km and 40km.

We look forward to welcoming you to Kilkenny and if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me or any of the MCC regulars here.

Link to TdKK page with links to routes.

Start location. If coming from Dublin or Waterford, take junction 9 off the M9 and head towards Kilkenny, it'll be on the left hand side before you get to the city. If coming from anywhere else, follow the signs for Waterford, it's approximately 1-2kms from the ring road on the N10.

    Bikestore location.

    Enter online here.

Did 110 a few years ago, properly tough and by far hardest of 100 km sportives I have done . Sorry to be missing this:(

There's small hills at the end of each route and with tired legs they feel like the worst of them. Bennetsbridge is really short but very steep as is Kilmanagh hill. There'll be plenty of fodder in Listerlin to keep ye going anyway along with mini stops in Thomastown and Kilmaganny. I haven't done it since the first year and I doubt I'll be able to do it this year either.

Hey CH, could you make the route on mapmyride open to public?
As a non mapmyride user I can't see the route without registering (which I don't really want to do if I don't have to).
My mum's from Kilkenny, so I wanted to see if it goes near where she's from (Clough).
    Thanks.

In what may prove to have been a moment of weakness... I've signed up for the 160k. Will see what happens on the day:o

hah, my aul one's from there too.

I think this only goes around the south of the county. The Deenside crowd have a Tour of Castlecomer (around september as far as I know) that takes in the north of the country.

Cool, well I'll deffo do the Castlecomer one maybe as well as this one.
(ask your mum if she knew the Powers from Chatsworth/ Clogh, my grandad and great grandad (both called Paddy Power) worked in the Deerpark mines ;)).

In fact if you go to 1.27 of this youtube vid - that's my grandad on the left (you can see why he was called big Paddy Power) with his mean machine.
    Haven't gone completely off topic - there's a picture of a bike! and it's in Kilkenny :)

And... is it possible to register in the morning of the Event?

Really tempted to do this, I now have many reasons to visit Kilkenny.

This would be my first year doing it on my own, which is the only thing putting me off. Not "on my own" as there will be lots of people there, but not going with friends.

Yes or you could register Friday evening if you want to avoid the queues on Saturday morning.

    Thanks Captain.

The problem is, I am coming home from my holidays around 2:30 AM on Saturday morning the Tour is on, so I may be wrecked and not sure if I can do the Tour at all. Obviously, Friday is not an option.

Ah OK, enjoy the holiday. Obviously the earlier you register on Saturday morning the less the queue and the less chance all the goody bags will be gone. If the weather stays like this we're expecting huge numbers to turn up on the day.

Captain havoc will kick my ass for this one.......

if you cannot make the Kilkenny tour, shure the Tour of wexford is the very next day. 160 K / 100K and 40 K down around the coast of wexford, taking Dunbrody abbey, Tintern abbey, loftus hall, Saltmills, Kilmore Quay, Hook light house, baginbun, Dollar bay, Fethard on sea

    Do both?

By the way, the 110k route hasn't changed from last year.( nor have the other routes). We just went a different way home when we were checking the route.

to do both would be quite an achievement. the relativly hilly Tour of Kilkenny followed by the flat tour of Wexford. ( with strawberries)

shure tis like a mini Tour de France !!!

Officially 7pm - 9pm but if anyone is stuck, let me know. It's cheaper to register online than on the day though (I think you've registered already though).

I plan on doing both unless I end up helping on the day, I could end up doing the 40km TdKK as an on-bike marshal.

We're still looking for volunteers to help out, if you live on the route we'd really appreciate an extra bit of marshaling. I don't know what I'll be doing on the day, I might marshal the 40km from my bike. Won't be doing Wexford the next day as I promised a friend of mine ages ago that we'd go to see Rovers v Villa in Tallaght.

Ha ha last year I took the 'hit it hard and get thru the steep bit at the bottom part quickly' approach.

Ran out of gears by the third 10%+ segment. This time it'll be sitting in the saddle and grinding as slowly as possible.

And of course that lovely 'wall' just after Woodstock awaits. It seemed like half the cyclists last year walked up that as their legs were still jelly from getting up Woodstock

As long as you don't tear off from the start you'll get a good time! Great climb. Just remember not to look at the top. Look 2 metres ahead and focus on your cadence.
